Are You Dressing For Your Personality Style? Part 2

dressing for your personality style

Last week I introduced you to the idea of dressing for your personality style

THE YIN & YANG OF STYLE…A RECAP

…It would probably make more sense for you to start with the original personality style post if you missed it last week since I’m only summarizing the information here. In a nutshell, each one of us is blend of 2 energies, the Yin (feminine) energy & the Yang (masculine) energy. You might resonate more strongly with one of the energies or maybe you’re a balance of both.

Each of the energies has specific predominant physical characteristics. For the Yin energy think curved lines & rounded shapes, wavy/curly hair & a rounder facial shape.  Yang energy on the other hand is all about the angles. Think straight lines & a more angular face shape as well as straight hair. Someone who is a balance of both would have more average body lines with no extremes either direction, an oval facial shape & a balanced overall physical appearance.

As I shared last week, each type of energy (Yin & Yang) has 3 specific personality styles that fall under it. See the graphic below:

Last week I went into detail in regard to the 3 Yin Personality Style Types. Today, the plan is to fill ya in on the 3 Yang Personality Styles.

THE 3 YANG PERSONALITY STYLE/TYPES

Dramatics typically:

  • are tall, slim & angular with very sharp angular facial features & narrow eyes
  • have long legs & square shoulders
  • have a facial shape that’s a diamond or triangle
  • are confident & forward thinking; they want to draw attention in a crowd
  • want to be where the action is, think the latest trendy nightclub or restaurant
  • have home decor that’s modern & clean; very minimalistic
  • are very motivated by success, power & innovation
  • are very charismatic, bold & theatrical
  • in regard to style are drawn to bold geometric prints, hounds tooth & high contrast colors
  • love white, black & red clothing; a red power suit would totally be their jam
  • super dramatic accessories like lucite cuffs & chunky geometric shaped necklaces

Artistocratics typically:

  • are tall & athletically built with a strong bone structure & facial features
  • may have a long or oval face shape with a wide mouth & strong nose
  • often prefer their hair to be long & straight so it’s low maintenance
  • often have an adventurous powerful look about them
  • really enjoy both physical & intellectual pursuits; love being outdoors
  • look one of 2 ways…either regal, think king or queen-like or adventurous like an Indiana Jones character
  • are poised, elegant & sophisticated looking
  • have homes that have an English manor vibe with big rooms filled with oversized furniture
  • put high value on adventure, education, intelligence & efficiency
  • feel that quality is a priority when purchasing clothing items; will invest in pieces that last for years
  • have a look that is traditional & practical; clothing reflects the whole English countryside vibe
  • are drawn to tall boots, chunky cable knits, turtlenecks, long skirts & tailored blazers with elbow patches
  • love accessories that are substantial & authentic; huge fans of antiques/vintage pieces

Naturals typically:

  • are short to average in height with a medium bone structure, open friendly eyes
  • have hair that is carefree & easy maintenance; put of a “girl or guy next door” vibe
  • are intelligent & well-informed; have an appreciation for people & things that are authentic & easy to read
  • aren’t huge fans of authority & prefer to do their own thing
  • have a knack for creativity & like working with their hands; love being outside in nature
  • have a home that’s comfortable & filled with natural materials like stone & wood; often have lots of plants in an effort to bring the outdoors into their home
  • find comfort to be key in regard to clothing; prefer their clothing to feel like wearing pajamas
  • are huge lovers of jeans, flannels & tee shirts
  • feel that comfortable pants (joggers, leggings) are the best thing ever
  • love ankle boots or any flat boot really; heels aren’t really their thing
  • have an overall carefree, practical & grounded vibe to their clothing; aren’t into fussiness & frills
  • wear minimal jewelry; if they do wear jewelry it’s typically delicate and/or made of natural materials like rough gems or leather

Just like last week’s outfit showcased my Yin “Creative Personality Style”, this weeks look 100% shows my dominant Yang Personality Style which is the “Natural”. When I’m not sporting one of my floaty boho girl looks you will always find me in something that is unapologetically comfortable. Whether it be joggers, a graphic tee & cardigan or loose fitting (preferably shredded) jeans with a flannel layered over a tee my go-to looks always fall under the Natural Personality Style.

Just like anything like this though, nothing is written in stone. There isn’t some unwritten fashion law that says you can only dress according to your personality styles. On any given day we may slide in & out of any one of the personality styles. And undoubtedly there are some who thing the whole Yin/Yang Personality Style stuff is silly & that’s cool too.

For me personally, it really resonates & I find it helpful to have the personality style information to use as a tool to make choosing pieces & getting dressed a little bit easier. If you’re in harmony with what you’re wearing you’ll feel more comfortable & fully yourself. And it never hurts to have some focus & clarity when we’re getting dressed in the morning.

I don’t think I fit into any categorie. Which is fine for me anyway. Lol. Have a great day.

Hi Debbie!
Love your new website look! This was interesting to read all the characteristics. It seems I fall more under “Aristocratic” but with inclusion of some of the Dramatic traits. Love your hair, it looks great. The mix of the color/print in this outfit looks great too.
thanks for linking!

I love this outfit and these yin/yang style posts! So much fun, my friend. I really think there are little bits of all the different styles inside of this Gemini girl! It is the benefit of being an astrological twin, I think! I have a little bit of both sides of everything!

I am definitely not a Yang! I might lean a little into the naturals. I love plants in my house, and, of course, I’m intelligent! This is all so fascinating. I would have never thought to categorize this way. I also realize these are not hard and fast categories. Thanks for writing this! And, as always, you look stunning!
