The holiday season is fast approaching and I’m all kinds of excited about it because although it may be cliché, it’s my favorite time of the year. But mixed in with that excitement is just a little bit of angst…
THE STORY
…The angst stems from the fact that as a family, we’re different than most. I realize that the vast majority of us don’t live in the sparkly picture perfect scenes that we see in seasonal commercials and Hallmark holiday movies, however we’re even a little further outside of the norm then most. Every once in awhile I’ll catch myself looking at posts about sparkly gorgeous holiday outfits or photos of an entire extended family dressed in matching pj’s on Christmas morning drinking hot chocolate and opening gifts and I feel a twinge of holiday inadequacy.
We don’t really have much family outside of our little nuclear group including my husband and I, our daughter and our son and his soon to be husband. That’s pretty much it…sadly there are no grandparents (with the exception of our adopted grandma), and anyone else that we’re related to we really don’t have relationships with. That means there are no family get-togethers, no holiday parties, none of the typical holiday festivities that come to mind when one thinks “holidays”.
Over the years though, we have come up with our own holiday traditions that we all look forward to each year. We kick it off with Thanksgiving dinner at my son’s house with his fiancé’s family. And let me tell ya, the food is always incredible, my son and his man can cook! The Christmas tree always goes up the day after Thanksgiving, the annual watching of Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer with hot chocolate, the holiday market in Pittsburgh, the boys come home on Christmas Eve…we’ve actually done alright for ourselves in the tradition department.
The irony is that the very things that can cause me angst are also the things that make our holidays special. Since it’s just us we can really spend time together, we can be comfortable we can just be ourselves. There’s no fretting over entertaining a house full of people, there’s no stress over finding the perfect outfit, there’s no need to worry about getting everything just right for anyone but ourselves. We can just chill and enjoy one another’s company…and at the heart of it, that’s what the holidays are really all about.
THE OUTFIT
Since our holiday celebrations are super chill, these adidas pants and cropped hoodie will definitely be in heavy rotation throughout the holiday season…this is exactly my kind of holiday style. The pants are made of a super soft plush French terry which makes them both cozy and comfortable, and that’s a win-win in my book. Bonus points because they are cut with a relaxed fit giving them that slouchy look that I love.
The day that we shot these photos I actually wore the pants to work and they were incredibly comfortable. Since this was a work look, I went with my white kitten heel ankle booties instead of sneakers to dress them up. The lace cami, buffalo plaid shirt, moto jacket and white boots made for an eclectic look, and the adidas pants blended perfectly into the mix.
The hoodie that my daughter is wearing is made from the same soft French terry making it just as cozy as the pants, and since I’m loving all things cropped right now the cut is perfection. And can we take a moment to appreciate how cute it is going to be styled with a satin or chiffon midi skirt?
Although the traditional adidas three stripe detail down the sleeves and legs is iconic, I’m a huge fan of the three stripes just on the cuffs; it’s subtle and cool, but still gets the point across.
Since Christmas is a mere 48 days away (seriously, how did that even happen??), if you haven’t already, the time to start thinking about shopping is now… With that in mind, here’s an exclusive link to shop the incredible Black Friday deals NOW at adidas.com, and get a few of those gifts checked off your list…and maybe a little something for yourself too!
THE TIP
During the holiday season comfort is key. Whether you’re marathon Christmas shopping, eating your fill of turkey and pie or simply relaxing on the couch with Netflix, being comfortable is where it’s at. Think cozy, loose fitting, and versatile. adidas has an excellent selection of comfortable yet cool pieces that can be worn for both lounging around home as well as dressed up for a family dinner or a day of shopping.
