This isn’t necessarily a story per se, it’s actually more of a disclaimer in regard to all posts for the foreseeable future…
THE STORY
…If you look at today’s picture, you’ll notice something is missing. Did you figure it out? The robot boot. It’s gone. Well, it’s not gone, it’s still here at my house, but it’s gone from my foot for the most part. I still occasionally need it when the pain and/or swelling kicks up. Saturday for example, I seriously overestimated my abilities and overused my foot. By late afternoon, not only was it really swollen, but it had also become decidedly “bruisier” looking so out came the ice pack and the boot.
The Birkenstocks (along with a bit of bandaging) have now replaced it. I can limp around pretty well in them truth be told. Here’s the problem though. The surgeon told me that my foot could remain swollen for 3 to 6 months. Yes, I said months. Not days, not weeks, but months. When she told me that my mouth said, “Okay”, but my brain said “WHAAAATTT???”
So here is where the disclaimer comes in. Out of the hundreds many pairs of shoes that I own, at this point the only pair that fits me are these Birks. These particular Birks actually. My pretty new mauve pink pair doesn’t have an adjustable buckle on the top strap therefore I can’t loosen them up to accommodate the swelling. To give you an idea of the size difference, the straps on my left sandal are on the tightest holes, but my right (the bad foot) are on the loosest holes. See the problem? So until I find more shoes/sandals that I can adjust to fit my poor little deformed foot into you’ll just have to ignore my footwear. Or maybe I should start cropping all of my shots at the ankle. Honestly, I’m not complaining (too much). I’m glad to be out of that boot and I do love my Birks. I just don’t love them enough to be overjoyed about wearing them every. single. day.
THE OUTFIT
I actually stumbled upon this cute bandana print skirt the other day while cutting through JCPenney to get somewhere else. The pattern caught my eye, but besides being super cute it’s lightweight and currently only $12.99! How sweet is that? When I was thinking about what to wear with it, of course a plain white tee/tank top or a graphic tee is what first came to mind. But then I remembered this navy blue print peplum cami I had in my closet from last year…a bold move perhaps because not only was I mixing prints, but at the same time I was pairing two navy blue pieces together. Some may call it crazy, but I call it sartorial genius because I love how it turned out; it almost looks like a dress instead of two separate pieces.
This fabulous little go with everything tan basket weave clutch made it’s way to me c/o Charming Charlie. They are the perfect destination for all things jewelry and accessory related (they carry clothing and shoes too though). If you’ve never been in a Charming Charlie store, they group everything by color throughout the store. We used to have one in our mall, and whenever I went in I was always magnetically pulled towards the pink/purple/turquoise sections.
So when they approached me to be a brand ambassador I was super excited! Then when my goodie box arrived I was even more pumped when I saw all of the sparkly pink goodness along with this clutch which will be the perfect neutral companion to pretty much anything and will work perfectly all year long. And guess what? They also sent along a little somethin’ somethin’ for me to share with my readers. Head over to my Instagram and simply follow the directions under this post to be eligible to win a $50 gift card to treat yourself at Charming Charlie!
THE TIP
Don’t be afraid to pair monochromatic pieces; especially navy blue with navy blue or black with black. It’s okay if the shades are off just a bit as long as the pieces work well together. For example, in today’s outfit the pattern in the top meshes well with the pattern in the bandana print skirt and the peplum echoes the tiers in the skirt.
