Today, I pose to you a question…
THE STORY
…What are your thoughts on Christie Brinkley landing the SI swimsuit edition cover? Is it an example of female objectification or female empowerment? I guess I didn’t really think about it too deeply until I read this article. I ain’t gonna lie, my first thought when I saw the gorgeous photograph of her and her two daughters was “You go girl!” I remember being in my early teens and thinking how gorgeous she was. And she still is. Her trade so to speak, has always been her looks, so if she is able to still be out there representing for women whom many consider to be past their prime, I don’t see a problem with it.
Are we all blessed with the genetic gifts that Christie so obviously is? No. But we are all gorgeous and unique and special in a million different ways. Honestly, I don’t know a whole lot about her, but I’d be willing to bet there is probably a lot more to Christie Brinkley then we know about. What I do know is that that woman has still got it goin’ on, and she damn well should be on the cover of SI.
And we should all have common sense enough to know that we can’t all look like that. But so what? That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be supporting someone who is 63 and does. I’m sorry, but while I do believe that many of our rights that those who came before us fought so hard for are in danger, I do not believe that a smokin’ hot woman in her 60’s posing in a bikini is a danger to those rights.
Should we encourage our daughters to only aspire to being physically beautiful? Absolutely not. I tell my daughter all of the time how smart, brave and funny she is. I encourage her interest in politics and her unconditional love for those different then herself. But I have also taught her how to use makeup, style her hair and dress well. Just because we are smart, that does not mean we can’t be beautiful as well. And vice versa. Why can’t we celebrate both? Neither is mutually exclusive after all.
THE OUTFIT
When I went to Boutique 16063 to pick out some pieces as one of their new brand ambassadors, this bell sleeve boho dress jumped out at me. Of course it did. It’s simply oozing that boho vibe that I love. The colors in the flowers were a perfect match for my Grace And Lace convertible vest; it was like they were made for each other. Since it is still Winter after all, I went with over the knee boots although the dress will be perfect with either my cowboy boots or ankle booties come Spring.
Speaking of Winter, I went bare legged because it was relatively warm in the morning. Uhhh ya, but the temperature dropped about 25 degrees before the end of the work day and I was absolutely freezing. Never thought I’d say this, but I wish I’d had a pair of tights.
Even though it’s a little early for it, we are at that in between time…one day it’s Winter, the next it’s…not Spring exactly; let’s call it Wannabe Spring. In light of that, I’ve put to together a list of sweater/dress pairings that are perfect for this bipolar weather. Pretty and Spring-y, but still warm enough for Winter. Let’s just call it my “Wannabe Spring Picks”.

THE TIP
When the temperature is unpredictable it’s always better to go with too many layers as opposed to too few. If it gets too warm, it’s far easier to remove a layer then it is to freeze because you left your fur lined long underwear at home.
