Black Ankle Pants & White Button Down: The Mocking Cursor

Black ankle pants, white button down and denim jacket. How to style a casual work outfit.

I ain’t gonna lie; I have been staring at my computer screen for a day and a half now…

THE STORY

…Not a solid day and a half of course. Off and on; I’d sit down, stare at it for awhile and then walk away. Only to come back later and have the exact same problem. Writer’s block; ick. My brain seems to be utterly and completely stuck. It’s so frustrating, so inexplicable and it sneaks up and bites me in the butt a couple of times a year. I’ve tried my usual tricks, perusing my news feed and other blogs waiting for inspiration to strike. Nope. Nothing. Nada.

The irony is that I have plenty to say. About a veritable plethora of topics. But can I summon up even one interesting line of prose? No I cannot. I know that many bloggers simply discuss what they’re wearing and that is fine, but that’s not me. I like to write about topics or stories that happen to catch my interest. I like to provide you with a dose of entertainment along with the fashion-y stuff. But alas, not today. I know that my creative and somewhat warped little brain will kick itself back into gear. It always does, but that doesn’t make it any less irritating that at least for the moment, it’s well and truly stuck. So for now I’m done staring at the blinking mocking cursor and I’m moving on with my day.

THE OUTFIT

This is probably as basic as an outfit can get; skinny black ankle pants and white button down. While this look isn’t necessarily my typical modus operandi, the extras that I added kept it within the realm of “me”. The chunky piece of neck bling, lace up detail pumps, denim jacket and men’s white button down gave it enough sass to make me feel comfortable.

I picked up the black ankle pants the night of the Chico’s event that I co-hosted. They are the Brigette So Slimming Ankle Pants, and friends, they are a little slice of heaven. They are crazy comfortable with a nice amount of stretch while at the same time super sharp looking. The men’s button down came from Kohl’s last year where I scored it on clearance for about $3. They work well together to make a nice basic work outfit, although without the necklace, pumps and jacket I kind of feel like I should be taking your order at Applebee’s. I always say that accessories make the outfit, and in the case of something this basic that could not be more true.

THE TIP

I hate those lists of “must haves” that every woman should have in her closet. Really? Every woman? I would perhaps argue that case though in regard to black pants. They don’t necessarily have to be a skinny cut like mine, but I do think that a go-to pair of black dress pants that fit you well are a great thing to have on hand. They are super versatile and will work for you in about a zillion different situations.

I have to admit that I like fashion blogging just for that darned writer’s block!!
Or as Sheela says, talking fluff!
Clothes may be fluff, but at least I love them! And we all have to get dressed every day, right?
I think your accessories just make this classic color combo fabulous! And aren’t those pants the best??

You could take my order any day! Ha ha, sorry, couldn’t resist. I love a basic white top, dark bottom combination…but you make the whole look anything other than basic with your awesome jewelry and embroidered denim jacket. Speaking of embroidered, I think you’ll like this. Was asking a co-worker this morning how her Easter was…”blah blah blah blah ambrosia.” *I* thought she said EMBROIDERED and somehow (mental deviant that I am) an image of HUMAN EMBROIDERY popped into my head – WH-A-A-A-T?? I thought, surely SOMEONE has embroidered on human skin…remember as a kid how you’d (well, I’d) take… Read more »

LOVE this look! And you are spot on about the necklace–a good tip! Being somewhat new to this blogging thing, I also totally get the writer’s block! Ugh. Looks like you powered through it!

Argh, writer’s block. It makes me so angsty when I can’t figure what to write about.
Love this easy outfit, and yes a pair of black trousers is nearly universal. You look great in them. xox

I really like this outfit. It’s a perfect example that basics don’t have to be boring.

I’ll have to look into the pants. For various reasons, I haven’t had a pair of basic black pants for quite a while now, and I really should change that.

We can’t force blogging. Somedays we just come up blank. But a post is never wasted when it has pants on it that fit this well. Incredibly flattering pair here. I’m jealous!

i’s not easy to come up with fresh ideas every time, sometimes a picture worth a thousand words and this applies to your outfit, Debbie. It’s lovely, edgy, fresh and reflects your individuality

Great classic look I really like the chunky necklace and pumps with this. I always really appreciate those who can write well, and as I do struggle to write more beyond about what I am wearing, I know writer’s block isn’t fun. Thanks for linking up and have a wonderful weekend, friend.
