I have to say, opening night of Style Week Pittsburgh was a blast! One of my best friends, Heidi (@la_hipmadame on Instagram) was my date for the evening and we couldn’t have had a better girls night out. Those of you who have been with me for awhile know what a huge deal this was…
THE STORY
The most exciting thing that’s happened to me in the last few months is a cow challenging me to a street race. Don’t get me wrong, I live within an easy driving distance to Pittsburgh; we just don’t head that direction on a regular basis. The biggest thing going on in my ‘hood is the grand opening of a fancy new Sheetz about two miles from my house; trust me, that will be the social event of the season in these parts.
The fashion show was ah-maze-ing! Four Pittsburgh based designers showed their collections and there were some truly beautiful pieces. Not only beautiful, but wearable as well. Be sure to stop by my Facebook page later today to check out some shots from the show. After the show there was a brief question/answer session with the designers. It was so interesting to hear what exactly goes into their design processes and the inspirations for their collections.
And can I just tell you how much fun it was when CitySTYLE gave Heidi and I our own little red carpet moment and did a “what are you wearing” interview with us?! So cool! If the video ever makes it’s way online, I’ll post a link to it so you all can check it out…c’mon, you know you want to!
I will admit I obsessed over what exactly to wear. I had bought a really gorgeous mixed print dress, but I decided to keep the basic outfit simple with a black pencil skirt and cami and let the accessories take center stage. I was wavering back and forth between the two, but when my daughter saw the dress and said, “Ooo…that’s so pretty; you should wear it for the first day of school,” the decision was made. Gorgeous or not, if it says “first day of school” to my 6th grade daughter then it’s probably not also saying “fashion event”.
THE OUTFIT
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, accessories make all the difference in an outfit. If you switch out the statement necklace and sequin clutch for delicate layered necklaces and a simple black bag or even my leopard clutch, then toss on a blazer or cardi, you’ve got a perfectly acceptable work look. But add two blingy accessories and a denim jacket and voila…you’ve got a night out look. It doesn’t get easier than that my friends.
