Every Summer for one week…
THE STORY
…our daughter goes to stay with our son and his boyfriend. This has been an annual event for years now although initially when she was younger it started out with just a few days. Now I’m not sure that a week is long enough for them; and I’m pretty certain they are conspiring to have her live down there with them when she goes off to college. Believe me, I’m on board with that…what mother wouldn’t want to know that while she’s sending her daughter out into the world, she’ll still have her two big brothers there to take care of her?
I love that they are as close as they are, especially since there is a fourteen year age difference. Even when Hailee was small and Cory was a teenager he enjoyed spending time with her; not necessarily what you’d expect from a teenage boy, right? The funny thing is, even though Cory had gone out on his own by the time she was not quite five years old, they could not be more alike had they been born twins. I always say that Hailee is simply a more mellow toned down version of her brother. They think the same way, they have similar interests and they enjoy doing a lot of the same things. While she’s there on her visit they shop, visit museums, go out to eat and just spend time together. I can’t tell you how happy it makes my heart that they have the relationship that they do.
I, unfortunately, wasn’t lucky enough to have any siblings. I had a baby brother when I was five years old, but he passed away as an infant so we never had the opportunity to develop a sibling bond. When my friends talk about their sisters and brothers I listen with a mixture of awe and maybe just a pinch of jealousy. Those of you who are only children probably get what I’m trying to say. How about you? Do you have siblings, and if you do, are you close?
THE OUTFIT
How seriously pretty is this peachy pink boho duster from the Knox Rose line at Target? Tragically it doesn’t seem to be available online so if you’re crushing on it as much as I am, get yourself to your local Target and see if you can track one down.
I wore this on a date night last weekend. I wanted something pretty without being too dressy. Trust me, I don’t live in an area that requires one to be all fancied up for a night out so my new duster was the perfect choice along with my shredded Bermuda shorts.
The majority of the pieces in my wardrobe (with the exception of heavy sweaters, over the knee boots and some of my shorts) are worn all year ’round and this boho duster is no exception. It will make a perfect layering piece over long sleeve tops and lightweight sweaters once the weather cools down. The colors make it even more perfect for Fall; while the background is a blushy pink/peach, the colors in the print are a mix of mustard, burgundy and black…perfect for Fall.
Satin camis make the perfect base piece for layering. I own the one I’m wearing in gray as well. Oddly enough, I don’t have a black cami. Often when I’m putting together an outfit I think, “This would be perfect with a black cami”, so I’ve been on the hunt for one that I like. I did find one in the Nordstrom sale, but alas, I moved too slowly and missed out, so the search continues.
THE TIP
If you want to look like you put in an effort without going over the top, simply pair one or two dressier pieces with something that is extra casual. Think sequins or satin with distressed jeans or a graphic or basic white or gray tee with a special skirt. Or you can always go with the tried and true formula of denim+white tee+blazer+standout sandals/pumps. Any combination of a casual and dressy piece will do.
