It’s been well over a month now since I shared a list of my mindless musings and random things that caught my attention…
THE STORY
…So I suppose it’s high time I get on that because seriously, we can all use a little dose of brain candy every now and again to entertain us, educate us or simply make us feel a little better about the world in general.
- First up is this absolutely beautiful photoshoot that photographer Abigail Lydick did of her grandparents for their 60th wedding anniversary. Complete with wedding gown and tux, these two are incredible. Their love and shared history is simply oozing from the photos, and it’s something we should all aspire to. #relationshipgoals
- Does Elsa have a girlfriend in Frozen 2? Well, I for one certainly hope so. I can hear the homophobes gearing up now…
- Instagram. Yes, I made a sentence out of one word. Since the algorithm changes started a few years ago I have made numerous efforts to figure it out and increase my engagement and followers organically. Here’s the thing though, one simply cannot keep up with the algorithm changes that seem to happen every time I turn around. And it’s not like Instagram is exactly forthcoming with information in regard to said changes. Whether or not you noticed, the algorithm changed recently yet again. My likes used to be hitting near 300 and now I’ve got several posts that are lingering in the double digits. My follower count has been stagnant for weeks. Guess what? I give up. For reals. I’m done with all of the strategies I was utilizing. I’m done with worrying about when/how much I post. I’m simply going to post whatever I want whenever I want because why waste the effort for negative gains? Okay Instagram…you win.
- I realize this is a month after the fact, but this story about D-Day veterans in their 90’s parachuting onto Normandy beach amid cheers from a huge crowd of spectators made my heart happy and I had to share it with you.
- This baby and all of his hair. I cannot even…
- I never ever do one of these posts that doesn’t in some way include dogs. This Buzzfeed list of the Best Dog Posts Of The Week made the cut this go ’round. Number 6 is my favorite. I don’t know if it’s real or not, but I laughed my ass off anyways.
- And finally, Jason Mamoa at the pool. Because, well…Jason Mamoa.
- PS…I wouldn’t be sad if there was an Aquaman sequel in the near future since the first one was such a delight, just sayin’.
- Update on my husband…He is doing much better now. He has thrice weekly physical therapy and can get around without his cane. There are still issues that his doctor is trying to figure out, but he is feeling better regardless. The future is still uncertain, but hey, isn’t it always?
THE OUTFIT
I’m all about easy lightweight dressing in the heat of summer and this boho print mini dress hits the mark on both counts. Yes, it is a mini dress. However, I am also mini therefore the dress is more just above the knee as opposed to mini on me. I discovered this dress when I purchased my boho wrap dress on Amazon awhile back.
While I do like this dress and will be wearing it a lot this summer (and probably in the fall/winter with boots and a chunky sweater), I like the wrap dress a lot more. The waistline is elastic as opposed to banded like it appears in the photo. That’s fine, but because of the elastic a belt is necessary to make it look it’s prettiest. I don’t love wearing belts to begin with and especially not in the summer. The nice thing about a braided belt like the one I’m wearing is it is fully adjustable so it can be worn low on the hips or higher on the waist and it still fits perfectly.
I did remove the belt after the photos because it was hot. The dress is still super cute and comfortable without it, it just lacks that little extra something that the banded waistline would have given it. I did go up one size in this dress like I did with the wrap dress. According to the reviews, that seemed to be the way to go. My regular size probably would have fit, but I like a little extra room to allow for the girls as well as my broader than typical on a small girl shoulders.
THE TIP
When in doubt, add a belt. As much I don’t love wearing one, a belt is often the one accessory that will make all the difference in the look of an outfit. I suggest having belts in a variety of widths and sizes. That way you’re covered in regard to where you are wearing the belt (waist or hips) and how much fabric you are belting. For example, this dress would not have looked as nice with a skinny belt as it does the wider braided belt.
