There are certain things that we do because we have to; finishing our tax returns, doing laundry, shaving our legs…
THE STORY
…you get the idea. Mundane, everyday chores that are quite simply no fun. Once we’re finished there may be a sense of relief (or stubble free legs), but there isn’t necessarily a feeling that we’ve accomplished something earth shattering.
Then there are the things, that while not necessarily more fun than shaving our legs, leave us with a sense of accomplishment. Like we actually did something productive. For me one of those things is getting our outside habitat back up to par after a Winter of neglect. It’s true, at this point there’s still much to be done (and yes, I’m still in panic mode because 3 weeks from tonight I’ll be getting ready for my surgery), but this weekend I busted out some serious work.
This year we decided to cover all of our old mulch with pea gravel. It’s easier to maintain, better for the dogs and I just think it looks nice with all of the natural rock action we already have going on. In any case I spent all day Sunday, and by all day I mean all day shoveling wheel barrows full of pea gravel, then dumping and spreading it out just so. I admit, I’m more than just a little OCD when it comes to things like that. The gravel level had to be uniform everywhere, the plastic had to be thoroughly tucked and hidden, the lights had to be perfectly realigned…you get the idea. You’d think I was crafting a fine piece of artwork for God’s sake. And now? All I do is stare at it. I stare at it out the back door. I go outside and stare at it. Yep, I’m pretty damn proud of myself. Truth be told, all I can do is stare at it because my back and hammies are so tight and sore all I can manage is to stand in one place and move by eyeballs.
THE OUTFIT
This is one of those outfits that is just kind of a mish mash of pieces that seemingly have nothing in common yet somehow it works. When I first received this boho print skirt from Shein, I knew that for it’s initial run I wanted to go with a graphic tee. An odd choice perhaps since the skirt has mix of prints built into it, but I felt like a graphic tee would work well with the free spirited vibe of the skirt. The nice thing about the skirt is it will work just as well more dressed up. I’m thinking it will be fabulous paired with my pink off the shoulder top and nude block heel sandals.
I think what really makes this outfit special is the belt and the statement necklace. A black belt would have also worked, but would have maybe been more expected, hence the reason that I went with brown; it gives a little more pop. And the necklace? It pretty much speaks for itself don’t you think?
THE TIP
Try combining items that you might not think would work together like I did here. An eclectic print combo, an unexpected pairing of colors or casual daytime pieces with nighttime pieces…think sequins and denim perhaps.
