It’s Monday and the first post of the week, so guess what that means…
THE STORY
…Yep! It’s the Weekly Randomness post; a collection amusing, interesting or irritating things from the last week that just aren’t quite enough to be a post on their own…
- This is by far my favorite of the week. It might not be as amusing in the retelling, but my daughter and I laughed out loud when it happened. And then several times later that day I laughed about it randomly out of nowhere. We went to this cute little local bakery/coffee shop Saturday morning to get donuts. They have these amazing fresh baked donuts and cupcakes with all kinds of creative and unusual toppings and flavors. There was a tray of donuts with what looked like Butterfingers candy bar crushed on top. My daughter asked me what it was and I said that I wasn’t sure, but it looked like Butterfingers. When the girl waited on us my daughter pointed at the donuts and asked, “What are these?” The girl looked at her, and dead serious she responded, “Donuts.” The two of us did that slow head turn towards each other and simply could not contain it…we busted out laughing. I got myself together and said, “No, she means what’s that on it?” “Oh, that’s Butterfingers candy.” Thank you bakery girl, thank you…you truly did make my day.
- I’ve mentioned before my aversion to wearing leggings as pants. If they were pants then they would not be called leggings they would be called, um, pants…amirite? Now there are exceptions; if they are constructed of a particularly thick material (thicker then your standard leggings) then okay, or if they are say, covered in sequins or made of leather or faux leather then perhaps they can stand alone as pants. But hey, if you enjoy rocking your leggings in place of pants, then have it. I’m certainly not going to hold it against you. Oddly enough though this is one of those rather nonsensical topics that inspires heated debates. So much so that the Wall Street Journal has now weighed in on the subject. What are your thoughts?
- Hey all of you out there enjoying your fireworks, beaches and cookouts…I’ve got news for you. Summer is officially over. Apparently it ended Saturday, July 7th. At least according to an employee at my local Walmart that is. This conversation really happened (and right after the donut conversation to make it even better)… “Excuse me, do you have beetle traps, I can’t find them?” “Nope, we’re all out.” “Oh, well will you be getting more in?” “No ma’am. Summer is over.” Ummm…okayyy. Fortunately for me (and my beetle infested hanging baskets), Summer is indeed not over on Amazon.
- Since it is indeed still Summer (I’m siding with Amazon on that) if you don’t know what a zero gravity chair is, trust me, you need one in your life. I happened upon this little slice of heaven at our local Big Lots store, sat in it, and Had. To. Have. It. And here’s another option from my friends at Amazon. Once you try it you’ll never want it to sit in any of your other outdoor furniture ever again. My husband and my mini thought I was a weirdo for making such a fuss over having to have one, but guess what? Once it came home one of them was always in it. Once my husband determined that it would make the perfect seat to sit in our backyard and watch the annual 4th of July fireworks this past Saturday, we had to head to Big Lots after dinner and pick up two more. See, mama does know best.
- And finally, because everyone needs something to make them smile, I leave you with this evidence that sometimes, strangers are awesome.
THE OUTFIT
I’ve had this simple little handkerchief hem boho sundress for a few years now. While I still love my denim shorts, this Summer I’ve been gravitating more towards simple dresses and skirts. They really are so much easier (and cooler) then shorts sometimes. In warmer weather I also typically stick to bralettes as opposed to bras; they are so much cooler and also look cute with strappy tops and dresses. For those of us with larger girls, bralettes that fit do exist, you just have to look a little harder. I’ve found a few at Walmart and my favorites are from American Eagle.
When it’s sweltering outside I prefer to keep things super simple including accessories and jewelry. I wear fewer necklaces, fewer bracelets and rely more on earrings for my hit of bling. 90% of the time my hair is twisted up in a claw clip although I do usually leave it down for photos simply because it looks better…or if I’m in air conditioning since I’m such a baby about being cold.
Lately I’ve had a bit of an obsession over western style belts. I got this white one with double buckles on sale from Express. This one I got from Amazon, and recently ordered two more, one in black and one in white. Can I just tell you, the belts from Amazon are the softest most supple leather. And they come with a special hole punch that is super easy to use so that you can add extra holes as needed.
THE TIP
I used to have a weird aversion to belts, I hate to feel confined in any way. Fortunately, I got over that because the addition of a belt can make all the difference in an outfit. Whether it be with jeans, shorts or pants or to cinch in a flowy dress or top, a belt is an easy way to make an outfit more interesting.
