It’s true that I have a rather obsessive excessive collection of statement necklaces. And they do get a lot of love. But what do I reach for most often?
Surprisingly not the bling. You see, I’m a sentimental girl at heart. I might like to come off all badass and whatnot, but peel away the layers of badassery and I’m insanely sensitive. So my most worn pieces of jewelry are the ones that mean something to me. The necklaces that I’m wearing here are the two I wear when I’m not sportin’ a Mr. T neckpiece. And sometimes I layer them along with the heavy duty artillery. The key on the shorter chain was a gift from my husband several years ago. The heart with it was a gift for my high school graduation from my grandma. It was designed to match my mom’s ruby and diamond ring that I inherited when she passed away the summer before my senior year. The key on the longer chain (ya, I’ve got a little thing with skeleton keys) was a gift this past Valentine’s Day from my husband and daughter.
Typically my earrings are my diamond studs that were also a gift from my husband a zillion years ago; it’s a rare day I wear anything else, and if I do, the studs are in my second piercings. My rings are non-negotiable. Of course there are my wedding rings. But in addition I wear the aforementioned ring of my mom’s, a band engraved with mine and my husband’s names, and finally an amethyst heart that matches my mom’s birthstone ring that I had her buried with. Wearing these pieces somehow make me feel closer to the people I love; kind of like they’re with me all of the time. The sparkly statement necklaces are fun and they definitely add a little somethin’ somethin’ to an otherwise ho hum outfit, but would I save them if my house caught on fire? Um, no. But believe me, I keep the important stuff in a safe place in case I ever have to make a hasty retreat. What about you? Do you have jewelry that’s special to you or is it merely an accessory?
I recently purchased these red boyfriend khakis on Poshmark although I already have the same pair (see here). Why the need for a second pair? I decided I wanted a looser fit. The originals fit me well enough, but they were a hair tighter than I wanted so when I saw them in a size up for under $15 on Poshmark I snagged ’em. The camo flats I picked up on clearance at Target last year and they have somehow they’ve missed out on a blog feature until now. And the tee? It’s the second of the perfect slouchy tees I found at Old Navy a few weeks back (here’s the pink version). I’ve never had a problem with owning multiples of something I love. If it’s an item you wear in heavy rotation, it fits well, and makes you feel fabulous then I believe it’s always good to have an extra. Or two.
