Let’s get right to it shall we…
THE STORY
…In no particular order, this week’s random points of interest…
- I’m not personally a huge fan of lawn ornaments per se. I simply don’t feel the love for gnomes, flamingos or random animal sculptures that one can use as planters. If those things are your jam though, no judgement here. I do however have sprinkled throughout my yard, gargoyles, butterflies and fairies; those would be the only concession to my anti-lawn ornament mentality. I have to tell you though, the other day I saw a lawn ornament that left me indecisive. I couldn’t decide if the individuals who thought it was the just right piece for their front yard were batsh*t crazy or living their best lawn ornament lives. My friends…it was a cow. Not just any cow mind you. This sucker was a life-size Holstein cow. Wearing a sun bonnet. Let me repeat that. A life-size Holstein cow wearing a sun bonnet in the front yard. And no, it was not a farm. These people took the phrase “go big or go home” to heart, they are fully committed to lawn ornament chic. They are feeling the bovine love. And I do believe they are indeed living their best lawn ornament lives.
- I’ve devoted my entire life to working with and teaching kids with special needs. Needless to say, stories like this bring tears to my eyes while simultaneously making me smile.
- Last week the burglar squirrel made my list, this week it’s the prowling pug…seriously, you gotta love these police departments with a sense of humor!
- Why is it not humanly possible to work on a home painting project without getting paint on oneself? And why is it, even armed with the aforementioned knowledge learned from years of experience, that I am so lazy that I convince myself that I do not need to change clothes before I paint? The conversation in my head went something like this…”C’mon, you’re only painting the railings on the porch…you don’t need to change. But it’s my favorite AE tee shirt…Nah, I’m good. I’m only painting the railings.” Ya, you all know how that turned out…
THE OUTFIT
Yes friends, today’s outfit is out of the norm for me in the Summer months; I feel like I’m definitely giving off a more work style vibe. There’s a solid reason for it though. And no, it’s not because all of the back to school nonsense in stores has me confused. Caite And Kyla gifted me with three beautiful embroidered pieces all with a boho feel to them, and I wanted to style each one so that I could showcase ways in which you can incorporate bohemian pieces into your wardrobe even if you aren’t a full-on boho girl like I tend to be. Make sense?
Originally I was going to combine all three pieces in one post, but decided that each deserved it’s time in the spotlight. Today I’m featuring my this burgundy lace tunic which also happens to be my favorite. The color, the lace, the empire waist to give it shape and the fact it can be used as a jacket/cover up/layering piece over other tops won me over. The burgundy longline cami underneath has tiny snaps holding it in place at the shoulders, but it’s totally removable. Imagine how cute it will be unbuttoned and layered over a graphic tee and jeans or even a slip dress, with boots in the Fall.
It’s also a great piece for work when paired with some skinny black pants which is what I did today. On a side note, these are by far the most comfortable dress pants that I own. I picked them up at a Chico’s event a few years ago and I’m feeling like a new pair in ultra violet might be on the list for Fall. I reached for my black block heel sandals on instinct, but pumps would sub in perfectly if you work in a “no sandals” type of environment.
Be on the lookout for my other Caite And Kyla pieces later this week…
THE TIP
You can easily add a bohemian touch to an outfit even if that isn’t necessarily your personal style. Simply add a single piece like this burgundy lace tunic to your typical pieces. If you pair your boho piece with sharp dress pants and pumps or heeled sandals then you have an office friendly boho look.
