I’m a sucker for a good quote. Words have power; both in the spoken and written form…
THE STORY
…If I had to choose just one quote to describe me in a nutshell, this would be it…
“Not everyone gets the same version of me. One person might tell you that I’m an amazing beautiful soul. Another person will say that I’m a cold-hearted bitch. Believe them both~I act accordingly.”
I am an amazing beautiful soul. If I love you, I love you hard. I will love you unconditionally. I will fight to the death for you. I won’t give up on you…ever. I’m loyal. I will keep all of your secrets. I will never judge you or be cruel. I will laugh with you and I will cry with you. Humans with special needs are my heart. I believe that few things in life are better than dog snuggles. My heart cannot take seeing any animal suffer. Sappy commercials and YouTube videos will make me cry like a baby. I always stand up for those who cannot fight for themselves. I’m funny and I believe in the power of laughing to the point of tears. I take delight in blooming flowers, butterflies and laying on a blanket and staring up at a starry sky on a warm Summer night.
I am a cold-hearted bitch. Disrespect me, gossip about me or treat me badly and I am done with you. You don’t have to like me, but at least be an adult and treat me with respect. Don’t lie to me. Own up to your bullshit…I don’t tolerate liars nor do I have time for games. Blatantly disregard those around you and I will blatantly disregard you. Show a lack of compassion for those with special needs or those less fortunate than you and I will come at you with everything I have…even when you don’t see it coming. Trust me, I never forget. Mess with those I love and I will destroy you…and then forget that you ever existed and not lose a moments sleep over it.
Right now you might be thinking “Damn girl, scary much?” or you may be wondering, “Well what about kindness and treating people well?” Yes, I hit the topic of kindness and being kind pretty hard from time to time, but here’s the thing…you get what you give. At least in my world anyway. I respond to what is being put out…and I respond accordingly.
Does that make me a bad person? No, I don’t believe that it does. I believe that it makes me human. I think that all of us have a duality in our nature. We can be very very good, or when push comes to shove, we can be very very bad. And “bad” isn’t necessarily always a bad thing. Sometimes to defend ourselves or those we love, we have to be “bad”. Sometimes not so nice people back us into a corner and our amazing beautiful souls are forced to transform into something fierce; a cold-hearted bitch if you will. I have learned to embrace both aspects of who I am because both are important. And necessary. The cold-hearted bitch is kind of like the bodyguard for the amazing beautiful soul…without one, the other ceases to exist. Which one you get depends entirely upon you…
THE OUTFIT
When I saw this butterfly print dress from Old Navy on a list of Spring dresses, I had to have it. Had. To. Between the butterflies, the lightweight Spring/Summer fabric and the just right ‘midi that will be the perfect maxi on me length’, I immediately made it mine. My love of butterflies runs deep and this dress was just one big butterfly party. Or so I thought…
You see, I actually almost returned it. The day it arrived, after I determined that it fit, I hung it on the back of my bedroom door in anticipation of suitable weather. After a day or two of my brain seeing the dress hanging there, I realized something…there were beetles on the dress too. And dragonflies. And grasshoppers. Ew…just ewww… It was at this point that I considered sending it back. I love butterflies, but all other insects kinda freak me out. Alas, all of the positives of the dress won out and I decided it was a keeper, beetles and all.
Like I said, it’s actually a midi dress, but being barely 5’2″ it’s the perfect maxi length on me. Since the days can still be chilly right now, I layered my lace kimono/duster/beach cover-up over top. It actually is a beach cover-up that I found at JCPenney several years ago. It makes the perfect boho layering piece; I think that it’s particularly cute with denim shorts during the warmer months.
The boots of course are my new Freebird Stair booties. I have them in both Ice and Distressed Black. Both pairs are worn often and well-loved. Freebird’s only come in whole sizes and both of my pairs are a 6. I normally wear a 6 1/2, but the 6 in these fit me well. On a sidenote, the black pair is noticeably larger and requires inserts to fit just right.
THE TIP
It’s often a challenge for petite girls to find maxi skirts or dresses that fit properly; the struggle is real my friends. Regular sized maxi’s are typically miles too long and finding petite sizes is not always as easy as it should be. I have found that oftentimes a midi skirt or dress in a regular size hits that maxi sweet spot for those of us who are vertically challenged.
