It’s been awhile since I’ve happened upon something in everyday life that I found infinitely amusing and wanted to share with you…
THE STORY
…But depending upon how you look at it, it’s your lucky day because this weekend I saw something that one doesn’t necessarily run across all that often or, um, ever. Sunday afternoon I saw something that caused me to actually slow down the vehicle so that I could be sure of what I was seeing.
I was driving on a scenic country road (as if there’s any other kind of road around here) dotted with neat pretty houses with well maintained front yards. My eyes briefly scan over a yard coming up on my left and then I look ahead again. Wait…what? I look quickly back and think, “Nah, there’s no way…”
As I get closer I start to slow down because from a distance it looks like there’s a porta potty in the front yard. Yes, a porta potty. Not a hand built wooden structure with a cute half moon carved in the front door that some delusional backwoods dweller would perhaps view as a super cool lawn ornament. It was a porta potty; the bright turquoise fiberglass kind with a red door that you would see at a concert. Or a construction site. I immediately think “Maybe they’re having work done on their house and it’s there for the workers.” Nope. Upon close inspection, not a lick of construction, roofing or any other manner of outdoor worker type of work is going on.
It’s just sitting there in the little turnaround space of the nicely blacktopped driveway. In front of the well kept brick house with a nice yard with budding trees and blooming flowers. My next thought? Since it was April 2nd perhaps a really really elaborate April Fool’s joke? If so, that’s some serious dedication to celebrating April 1st. Just imagine waking up to that though…you make your coffee, yawn, maybe do a little stretch then stroll over to the window with your coffee and…boom! There’s a porta potty in your front yard.
Or I suppose it could be explained by the epitome of laziness. Summer’s coming after all, and you know it’s such a long inconvenient walk into the house when you’re mowing the yard and have guzzled a gallon of water. I guess though it shall remain one of life’s great mysteries, not unlike the hillbilly stonehenge and chicken camping…
THE OUTFIT
Our theme for this month’s Ageless Style Link Up is pastels. Since I’ve been all over pastels for months now, this was right up my alley. And by happy coincidence I had just received this delicious peach cocoon cardigan that I recently ordered. What to pair it with…hmmm…
I was initially thinking my cream cami underneath, which was not a bad idea, but then I thought, “Why not keep it in the same color family instead of going the easy route?” So I went with the blushy/peachy cami instead. The cami isn’t a true shade of peach. It definitely leans more blush, but I really like how it blended with the cardigan. The cami is a bit sheer on it’s own so I added the white cage bralette not only for coverage, but for the visual interest at the neckline.
The floral print flats include a mix of both peach and blush pink as well as some brighter shades thrown in for good measure so they were perfect. Since it was the weekend, I wore the weekend jeans; my favorite most destroyed pair of boyfriend jeans. I think the shredded jeans add a little toughness to the sugary sweetness of the cardigan/cami combo.
THE TIP
Try a tone on tone look. Even if the two shades aren’t a perfect match; maybe especially if they aren’t. It keeps things interesting and interesting is always more fun.
