Today was the first day of our last week of school as well as my first day back after my foot surgery…
THE STORY
…It was good to be back because I missed my kids and my posse, but I have to say that two weeks off has me really jonesing for school to be over. Fortunately there’s only four days left. The funny thing is, once school is out it takes me all of about three weeks and I’m done with summer break. I realize that’s strange, but I think that when I don’t have to be somewhere every day I miss the structure. I’m just one of those people who doesn’t do well with loads of free time. I crave structure and consistency in my world.
If I find myself with an overabundance of empty hours, days, months, I’m always full of good intentions. I’m going to get this done and that done; needless to say I’m lucky if even the “this” gets done. I could say that this summer is going to be different. This is going to be the summer. The summer when I get all of my little projects around the house done. The summer when we take tons of fun little day trips. The summer when I’m going to be productive. Um, ya. I know myself better than that. So I’ll just have to love myself for the lackadaisical little procrastinator that I am and be happy with that. And who knows, maybe I’ll surprise myself…
THE OUTFIT
Off the shoulder tops was our theme this month for the Ageless Style Link Up. This is really more of a cold shoulder tee, but in my opinion it’s six of one and half dozen of another. I chose this particular cold shoulder tee because I picked it up last Fall and haven’t had the chance to wear it yet. I love a good tee, especially when it has some sort of fun unexpected detail like the open shoulders on this one.
I kept the look casual, surprising for me I know. I decided to keep with the whole comfy slouchy vibe the top was throwing off. Thus, I went with my ever present denim shorts and my new Birks. Obviously these shots were done pre-surgery when it was still “Birks” as opposed to “Birk”. This yummy duster that I used as a lightweight topper is actually a dress although I have yet to wear it as a dress. It just works so well as a finishing piece with a casual outfit like I wore it here back in the Winter.
THE TIP
My every day getting dressed strategy is simple. Choose a starter piece. It will be your foundation. It can be a pair of shoes, a dress, a necklace…whatever really. In this case I used the top as my starter piece. Then simply build the rest of your look around that one piece. Bada boom, bada bing, you’re done.
