I now have irrefutable evidence that I am and have always been both a fashionista and…
THE STORY
…a trailer park redneck. Today being the last day before Thanksgiving break, it’s an all fun all day school day. Movies in the morning and then all kinds of fun shenanigans the rest of the day; three legged races, door decorating, Mannequin Challenge…you name it, it’s happening. Part of the tomfoolery includes faculty baby pictures and the kids have to guess who we are. In true trailer park redneck fashion I couldn’t come up with a baby picture, but the little gem I did find from when I was about three years old totally proves that I came out of the womb the way I am today.
In the photo I’m sportin’ my favorite dress, which by the way, I absolutely remember. I wore it at every possible opportunity. It was a blue cotton with flower appliques, white velvety polka dots and a mock turtleneck…dreamy, I tell ya. Accessories were just as crucial at three as they are now and as is usual for me, I had to go with the masculine/feminine mix. I thought my velvet maxi dress and moto jacket combo last week was the ultimate good girl/bad girl juxtaposition, but no…I give you the true ultimate good girl/bad girl look:
Yep. As Jeff Foxworthy would say…you might be a redneck if…you accessorize your party dress with a straw farmer hat and a shotgun. After that I really have nothing else to say. Sometimes a picture really is worth a thousand words.
THE OUTFIT
I pretty much love everything about this outfit, but the Rialto Shoes colorblock ankle boots are definitely the main attraction here. I mean look at them. They’ve got a cool kinda 70’s retro vibe going on, the heel is just the right height to give you lift without discomfort, and the color…to die for. One of the best parts, which you can’t see, is the insole. It has these cushioned ridges under the ball of your foot that are kind of massage-like while at the same time keeping your foot from moving around…love.
I saw this gorgeous honeycomb knit sweater on the lovely @3figgypuddings on Instagram last week in a yummy blush/taupe shade and I had to have it. In light of the fact Old Navy was having a 50% off sale I also picked it up in light blue since I’ve declared this Winter the Winter of Pastels. And the jeans? They are my very first pair of BLANKNYC jeans and they are fabulous. Since I was unfamiliar with the sizing, I did have to return the first pair because they were hugenormous on me. But this pair? Perfection.
THE TIP
Looking for a little taste of 70’s retro? Try a color block boot. Keep them current by pairing them with boyfriend jeans, distressed or not.
