Running a close second, right behind the butterfly, the firefly is my favorite insect…
THE STORY
…and here’s a random fact for ya, the firefly is the state insect of Pennsylvania. On a totally unrelated note, the Slinky is our state toy; who knew there was an official state toy? See what teaching middle school social studies will do to you? I’m a veritable fountain of bizarre information. Okay, I know, what is my point?
Firefly Clothing. That’s my point. I was approached by Firefly Clothing to be a brand representative for them as they are an Australian based company and are looking to expand their customer base to North America. They offer a wide range of beautiful floaty dresses made from 100% natural fabrics with a definite bohemian slant, so ya, that was right up my alley. The clothing is designed to be both effortless and at the same time practical and comfortable. Another great thing about Firefly Clothing is that they have a strong focus on ethical standards, and have worked with the same family run manufacturer for over a decade. Their designers actually visit the manufacturer twice a year to ensure both quality and fit.
The three pieces I chose from their Autumn/Winter 15 collection were all even more gorgeous in person and they truly are well-made. You know how you can just feel the difference in quality in a piece of clothing? I washed two of the three items and they came out beautifully; even softer if that’s possible. And coincidentally two of the three pieces I chose are best sellers in Firefly’s Autumn/Winter collection. The tunic dress I’m wearing today is the Marley and coming at ya soon will be the Karo which I also wore earlier this week. For a sneak peek you can check it out on my Instagram. Speaking of Instagram, stop by @fireflyclothing and also give their Facebook page a visit as well….c’mon, you know you want to.
THE OUTFIT
This embroidered tunic dress is one of those rare pieces that required no over the top accessorizing nor a third piece. The beautifully intricate embroidery gives it all of the flare it needs to be a standout piece. While the faux fur vest does look pretty great with it, it was purely for functional purposes; while it’s true it was 72 degrees today (yes, it’s November and yes, this is Pennsylvania) it’s also true that it was 39 degrees when I left for work. Therefore, the faux fur was necessary to maintain some semblance of warmth. And oh yes, the lace up boots. Are these not the most delicious footwear you’ve seen recently? I absolutely positively could not live if they were not in my closet. All hyperbole aside, I seriously drooled a little bit when I saw them.
THE TIP
When an item has truly standout details (embroidery for example), keep everything else to a minimum and let the details take center stage.
