Floral Kimono & Fringe Sandals: Memories In A Bottle

floral kimono, fringe sandals, cropped skinny jeans

Today is the final day of Spring Boho Week with Ada of Elegance And Mommyhood

THE STORY

…If you haven’t had the chance yet, definitely head over to Elegance And Mommyhood and check out Ada’s spin on Spring boho style. Ada also hosts a link up on Thursdays, so while you’re there link up your most recent blog post too. Get some exposure for your blog and maybe discover a few new favorites too!

Well, today was the day. Baby Tree is officially gone. If you missed Wednesday’s post, you might want to read it first for an explanation of what Baby Tree is. Wednesday evening I sat outside for quite awhile trying to will him to sprout leaves. Ya, you can guess how well that worked out for me. I just sat there for awhile in the quiet drinking my coffee and thinking about all of the memories tied to that silly tree. You know how people always say the kitchen is the heart of your house…the place where everyone kind of gathers to be together? Well, whenever the weather permitted, underneath Baby Tree was where you’d often find us. Good times happened there, painful tough discussions happened there; all of the beautiful messiness of life. Having Baby Tree cut down was like losing a huge piece of our family history.

And here is one of the million and one reasons that I’m crazy in love with my husband. He made sure the tree cutters were long gone and everything was cleaned up before I got home so that I wouldn’t have to see it. He texted me a picture of where the tree used to be to kind of mentally prepare me for it. He was there to witness it and said he had tears in his eyes when Baby Tree came down. And do you know what else he did? He told the tree cutters to leave some of the wood chips and sawdust that were at the base of the trunk. When I got home he found me a beautiful clear glass bottle and stood there with me while I filled the bottle with the wood chips and sawdust. Then we found the perfect spot on the shelf in our dining room to keep our little reminder of Baby Tree and all of the memories that go along with him.

THE OUTFIT

How gorgeous are the colors in this floral kimono? I first spotted it on Instagram last year, but didn’t pick one up. When it reappeared this year, I was on it. I can’t resist a bright pretty floral print and if it’s on a floral kimono then all the better. A kimono is one of those pieces that can go in a whole lot of directions. Paired with jeans and fringe sandals like I did here, it reads boho, but not quite full-on boho. But pair it with a pencil skirt and knot it in the front like I did here and it becomes a perfectly suitable substitute for a cardigan. Use a kimono to top a lace tank top, distressed boyfriend jeans and ankle boots and you’re definitely a card carrying member of the boho club. And bonus points because a kimono is the perfect cover up for days when you’re feeling just a little “poofy”.

THE TIP

Give a kimono a try. Even if you think that maybe kimonos aren’t your style; they are crazy versatile and can be worn a gazillion different ways. Take baby steps and start with one in a solid color like black or ivory. Trust me, you’ll be surprised at how often you reach for it once you have one in your closet.

I love how you kept some of “baby tree” as a remembrance!! What a fantastic husband you have!! (of course, I’m sure you’re a fantastic wife too)
I’m a big fan of kimonos after I discovered them last year—I didn’t even think about the boho factor—to me there are so functional. A lightweight covering for the summer is exactly what I need when we go in the A/C places!

I am so sorry about baby tree and I do understand. Nice of your husband to save you some of the tree’s “ashes” for you to bottle in a vase. Loved loved this final outfit you wore for our Bohemian look – my favorite of the three. That kimono is gorgeous and matches the floral background so well. Can you believe I do not own a floral kimono yet? Thanks for doing this lovely collaboration and the great collages you made. It was so much fun. Thanks for your kind words and mentioning my linkup, too. I appreciate it a… Read more »

Ohh, I feel your tree pain 🙁 I hate when ANY trees are lost, anywhere, but when it’s in your own little world…ouch.

And hey! I’ve been working on a kimono story myself! I adore them, so easy and soft, two of my favorite fashion words 🙂 This one is gorgeous over the blue cami!

Love this look! And your husband sounds like a keeper, for sure. What a sweet gesture. Maybe you can put a birdbath or a birdhouse where the tree used to stand so that it’s still a special spot for you.

Love your kimono! Sorry to hear about your tree! We had a tree that did not survive the winter. I was sad to get rid of it!

You are a beautiful lady and those colors look great on you. I was just looking at some kimono wraps today and almost bought one, but then didn’t. Now I’m thinking I may need to go back and get one. Thanks for the inspiration.
