Have you ever felt like a butterfly still inside it’s chrysalis? Growing and changing exponentially for weeks…
THE STORY
…and then feeling all wiggly and ready to burst out of the shell that has been confining you? I bet at some point you have, even if perhaps you didn’t realize it. The change might be of a physical, spiritual, emotional or philosophical nature; or maybe it’s a combination of any number of the aforementioned. Oftentimes a change is precipitated by some incongruity in our world. Something that just is not right; it makes us uncomfortable in our own skin, it makes us want to break free, it makes us want to change.
There have been times in my life, more than I care to remember, when I became so entrenched in something…whether it be a situation, a line of thinking, a behavior, a relationship…that it started to pull me down before I even was aware that it was happening. Fortunately I have a finely honed survival instinct and even if awareness is awhile in coming, it does come. And then? I Do Something About It.
I research. I read; I am a voracious reader. I ask questions. I talk to people that I trust. And yes, there have been times that assistance from a professional was warranted. I have always been the self-reliant and strong-willed type so more often than not, I can go about changing what needs changed through my own determination and hard work. It might take some time, it might take a lot of time, but that’s okay. I might slip up, I might regress, but that’s okay too. The important thing is to not to be the caterpillar forever. To instead be like the butterfly; and break free of the chrysalis, more beautiful and more free then one would have ever been if one had remained the caterpillar.
THE OUTFIT
All of last week it was like Spring in February with temperatures averaging around 65 degrees, which is completely insane for this time of year in PA. It made getting dressed a tricky proposition; it was feeling most definitely Spring-like, but c’mon, it was February, so it just didn’t seem right to go with full-on Spring/Summer clothes.
Enter the floral maxi dress, white sweater, fringe ankle boots combo. It seemed to me to be the best of both worlds. Spring-ish, but still February appropriate. I did not want to look like all of the crazies that I saw out and about in shorts and flip-flops. The dress will be summer perfection on it’s own once it warms up for real. It has spaghetti straps, which by the way, are adjustable making it perfect for those of us of the tiny persuasion. It’s lightweight and has a thin lining underneath for added coverage, but not added heat.
The white shaker knit sweater isn’t a heavyweight Winter chunky knit. It’s what I would call mid-weight; perfect for cool Spring or Fall days, but probably a bit much for summer. Together the dress and sweater made the perfect outfit for weather that’s going through an identity crisis.
THE TIP
When the weather is confused, you don’t have to be. Layer several lighter weight pieces in more Spring/Summer like colors and prints. You’ll be comfortable and stylish without looking like you got your seasons confused.
