When we are younger, our circle of friends can be rather fluid. People enter your life and sometimes exit almost as quickly as they appeared. Youthful friendships, much like youth itself, are often transient and fleeting…
THE STORY
…That isn’t necessarily true of all friendships rooted in youth; my best friend and I have been together since elementary school although an actual friendship didn’t blossom until we were about thirteen. If you look back though, many many people have probably passed through your life; some of whom you probably can’t even remember their names even though they may have been important to you at the time.
As we get older and gain some life experience and maturity, we realize who our friends really are and what friendship really means. And at least speaking for myself, we narrow the field. I now prefer quality over quantity in regard to friends. I may have a small group, but it is made up of some of the most spectacular women on the planet.
Here’s the thing though, sometimes we (I) need to remind ourselves that while we may be set in our ways and comfortable with our circle of friends, there is always room for more truly good people in our lives. People whom we care about and enjoy being around. People whom if you were ever in a bind or just needed to talk, you could call them and they would be there. People we can truly trust. People who feel that exact same way about us. Sure, it’s difficult and perhaps initially more awkward making friends when we are fully formed adults, but that makes it all the sweeter when you discover someone who is a keeper.
THE OUTFIT
Maxi skirts/dresses aren’t something you see me wear very often. Why? Well, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’m lazy. What does that have to do with wearing maxi skirts? I’m short, and therefore unless it’s a skirt that I can hike clear up to my bra and wear like a strapless dress I have to get it altered. And that’s where the lazy comes in. I just don’t feel like going through the hassle of getting them altered.
You might be thinking, “This floral maxi skirt is the perfect length on you.” Um ya, that’s because I’m wearin’ it like a strapless dress under my cute little tank top. Speaking of which, have you tried any of the Basics line from H&M? I have several tees and I recently picked up a couple of these tank tops at 2 for $10. Most of their Basics are available online, but this top seems to be an in-store only item. It’s lightweight and makes the perfect layering piece. Since it is cut low both at the neckline and armholes, I wore it over one of my cage bralettes which serves a dual purpose; needed coverage plus a little extra pizzazz at the neckline.
THE TIP
Consider adding a bralette or cami with fancy strap detailing under a low cut top or dress. It’s an easy way to make something basic more interesting.
