No, that is not some completely socially inappropriate play on words…
THE STORY
…I’m talking about literally hairy Mexican food. My son and his boyfriend were home to visit today so we went to the local Mexican restaurant that my husband and I frequent. It’s kind of a little dive; like most places in these parts, but it serves really good food. We were finishing up and my daughter had plowed her way through three tacos. Seriously, she is one of the messiest eaters ever and her brother was teasing her because her plate looked more like a plate of leftover nachos then it did tacos. I was pushing around her shell shrapnel on her plate when she says, “Ew, there’s a hair!” At first my husband told her it was probably one of hers, but when he picked it up it was, um, short and curly. Ya, nice right? That was horrifying enough, but then he starts looking and finds two more longer black hairs. My daughter has light blonde hair, just sayin’. At this point, I was this close to losing my seafood quesadilla. I’m not one to complain at a restaurant; I worked too many years in food service to be an unnecessary pain in some poor waitress’s ass. But I will complain if the situation warrants it. Trust me, this situation warranted it. Needless to say it will be a looonngg time before I can eat Mexican food again. I’m weird like that. Once something totally grosses me out it might be years before I can eat it again. Tragic, because I do love me a good chimi every now and again; preferably one that I don’t have to shave first.
THE OUTFIT
I decided this time I’d wear this white boho dress as a dress. The first time I wore it, I layered it over jeans, but I wanted to wear it at least once with bare legs before the polar vortex settles back over my ‘hood. Although based on the current weather report it seems to be hovering in the 80’s clear into next week. The taupe fringe booties and taupe tulle slip/extender kept everything neutral. Styling it simply as a dress changed the entire look as opposed to layering it over jeans and pairing it with bright sandals.
THE TIP
Come up with different ways to style items already in your closet. Whether it be layering a dress over jeans, adding different shoes/accessories or maybe a vest or blazer over top, you can alter the entire look and feel of a piece with a few simple changes. And yes, this dress is white and it’s mid-September. Not wearing white after Labor Day is one of those style rules that has lived well past it’s expiration date. White might have a summer feel, but that doesn’t mean it can’t work year-round. If it makes you feel self conscious try a small dose, for example shoes. Or go with a subtler tone in place of bright white.
