While I suppose it’s true that there is no such thing as a good apocalypse…
THE STORY
…there is definitely a such thing as a mediocre apocalypse. If you’ve been around FFD long enough or have visited my About page, then maybe you know that I have a rather bizarre intense interest in all thing apocalypse related. I’m not sure where it came from, but I think it started when I watched The Day After way back in 1983. Does anyone remember that? It was a made for t.v. movie about the apocalypse via nuclear war. I remember being glued to the television and terrified out of my mind. I voraciously read apocalyptic fiction; everything from The Stand by Stephen King to self-published authors on Amazon. I own most of my favorite apocalypse movies, minus World War Z, because hey, a girl has her limits and zombies just don’t make my short list of believable causes of the end of the world.
Which brings me to the mediocre apocalypse; The 5th Wave. Yes, I know it’s based on a young adult novel, but still…I have certain expectations for the end of the world. And as far as my expectations go, it was pretty lame. It wasn’t awful, just kind of “meh”. When the next part comes out I’ll wait and catch it on one of the movie channels. Until the next great apocalypse movie comes along I’ll just have to make do with Colony, a t.v. series that started at the beginning of January. While it’s not necessarily pure apocalypse (it’s more alien invasion, which isn’t one of my favorites) it does star Josh Holloway at his scruffy long-haired hottest. And that makes an alien invasion a-okay in my book. Who’s Josh Holloway? Ever heard of Lost? Ya, that was another of my unusual obsessions. Loved that show. And loved Sawyer (Josh Holloway) the most. Sexy as hell, smart-mouthed, bad ass. I’m thinking he can make an alien apocalypse tolerable.
THE OUTFIT
You absolutely need to pick up this funnel neck sweater from Joe Fresh. Unless of course you live somewhere balmy, then it might be a bit impractical. But if you live in colder climes, then go…right now. It’s a perfect chunky, slouchy, cozy shaker knit and it’s only $9.94! Yes, you read that right. Nine dollars and ninety four cents. Seriously, what are you waiting for?! I picked it up in both gray and brown and it also comes in coral and aqua. It will look fabulous with a pencil skirt, but here I went the boyfriend jeans route. Typically slouchy paired with slouchy is tough to pull off unless you want to look like an Olsen twin during their “homeless chic” era. But this worked because I front tucked the sweater and added a belt to cinch it all in a bit. The fringe ankle boots added a hint of boho and the tassels on the both the necklace and bracelet echoed the boots.
THE TIP
You can do volume on both the top and bottom as long as you visually “tighten it up” a bit. This can be achieved by doing a simple front or side tuck and/or adding a belt.
