I have found that the older I get, the far less judgmental I am about a lot of things, but I’ve also found that there are a few things that I’ve become far less tolerant of…
THE STORY
…Weird, right? Over time I have realized that one cannot look at another’s relationships or life situations and think or say things like, “Oh, my God…how can she be stupid enough to stay in a marriage like that?” or “Why would he put up with someone treating him like that?” When I was much younger I would often think that I would never put up with this or put up with that…I would leave the relationship, quit the job, tell so and so to go to hell…you get the idea. It is easy to judge when the path is not yours.
But as I’ve gotten older, and perhaps because I have traveled more paths, I have realized that unless you are that person travelling that particular path, then you have no idea of the why’s or how’s of what they do. Nor is it anyone’s business but their own. Everyone has their own reasons for what they choose to do with their lives, and whether or not others find their reasons to be valid is irrelevant. You do what you gotta do.
On the other hand, I have become way less tolerant of blatant unkindness, blatant rudeness and blatant stupidity. In my opinion, there is simply no excuse for any of the above. I mentioned a few weeks ago that I have made it my mission in life to throw some kindness out into the world every time I leave the house. It doesn’t cost a thing to hold a door, say “thank you” or “you’re welcome”, to allow someone to turn left in cross traffic when you’re going straight. It also doesn’t cost a thing to say a kind word or toss out a compliment to a stranger. And it certainly can’t hurt in the current societal climate to put some good vibes out into the universe, now can it?
THE OUTFIT
It’s no secret that I love a good graphic tee. So when the theme for this month’s Ageless Style Link Up was “Graphic Tee’s” you all know how happy I was! It’s also no secret that I have been known to take scissors to my graphic tees, or any tee shirt really. So imagine my delight when I happened upon this tee that checked off all of the boxes…cool graphic, soft and floaty, and pre-cut…no scissors required.
The tee that originally lured me onto the website is equally fabulous, but it’s gray and has a different rose graphic. They were having a buy one get one 30% off deal on tops that day so I told my daughter to pick a top since it is back to school shopping time. With absolutely no suggestion or prompting from me, my mini chose the gray tee…and we now wear the same size…score! Although like a good mom, I promised that I wouldn’t borrow it until after she wore it first. Sadly, neither one is still available, but I’ve linked some cool alternatives below.
I wanted to stick with a subdued color palette, so I went with my gray boyfriend jeans and blush lace up flats. I think it all pulled together really well. I’m also thinking that this tee will look mighty fine with my pink tulle skirt too. I threw in the black grommet belt to add some toughness. Okay, I threw in the black belt because I don’t own a gray or pink belt. Honestly, my belt collection leaves something to be desired and I should probably work on that…
THE TIP
For whatever reason, a lot of women feel like once they reach a certain age (I don’t know exactly what “a certain age” means or is) they should no longer wear graphic tees because they are for younger women. Um, no. That’s just silliness. I have pretty graphic tees like this one, rock band tees, political statement tees, funny tees, slightly off color tees…you name it, I have it. And I wear them all. The key to wearing graphic tees, like anything, is to own it. Own it and rock it. Go out in the world and make a statement my friends. “A certain age” is nothing more than a myth.
