Awhile back I wrote about how, out of nowhere, an ordinary day can suddenly take an epic turn for the worse…
THE STORY
…although I was wearing a killer sequin jacket that day, so there’s that. On the flip side, how cool is it when an ordinary day takes an epic turn for the fabulous? Yesterday was one of those days for me. Some of my students participate in a multi-school district sports program, which I had mentioned in yesterday’s post. They compete against kids from other districts in different sports depending upon the season. In the fall it was soccer, track and field is coming up and right now it’s…bocce. Yes, bocce. Who knew? I myself originally thought it was a drinking game because all I knew about it was a lot of the local bars have bocce leagues. Needless to say, it’s not a drinking game.
I’m blessed to work in a school district where the administration is insanely supportive of our special education programs and in particular the students in the life skills programs at both the middle school and high school. For the last week or so, they have pulled out all of the stops to publicize our home match yesterday. It’s been on the morning announcements every day, a call from our district’s automated call system went out to all parents and employees to invite them to attend and the kids are the feature on our district homepage which you can take a quick gander at here. The kids have felt like celebrities all week and it’s been a fabulous thing for them.
I have to tell you guys, the turn out was insane! Not only teachers, administrators, school board members and parents, but kids. So many middle school, high school and even elementary students were there that it took my breath away. And pretty much every student in my class was there to support their friends. To make it even better, our team won! And after the game our superintendent bought pizza for both teams and their parents. It was a truly amazing thing to be a part of.
And if all of that wasn’t fabulous enough, I get home and find out that the beautiful Catherine at Not Dressed As Lamb has bestowed upon me the unbelievable honor of being included on her list of stylish over 40 fashion bloggers you should know! Omg omg omg!!! I literally squealed out loud when I saw it. If you haven’t seen her post yet, put it on your “must do” list. To be included on a list with so many other unbelievably beautiful and stylish women is incredible and I couldn’t be more excited.
THE OUTFIT
I considered posting a different outfit today since the cardigan is super similar (but not the same) as yesterday’s post. But hey, it’s what I actually wore this week so I went with it. It is an entirely different look after all. There’s a kind of casual boho vibe to it thanks to the black lace boho top. The top and jeans were cute on their own, but being a fan of the third-piece rule (one of the only fashion rules I believe in) I added the cardigan. The leopard clutch would count as a fourth piece I guess…so maybe we need a fourth piece rule as well.
THE TIP
A simple way to take a basic outfit and give it a little oomph is to follow the third-piece rule. It’s really pretty basic. Once you put your outfit together, the jeans and top would be the first two pieces (shoes don’t count as a piece), add a third piece. It could be a jacket, blazer, cardigan, scarf, hat or even a stellar handbag or statement piece of jewelry. Easy as that…basic outfit+shoes+a third piece=outfit perfection.
