If I thought my Cher worship when I was a little girl was over the top, I was wrong…
THE STORY
…I am now utterly obsessed! She made me laugh out loud with her witty repartee, and brought a tear to my eye when she sang “I Got You Babe” in a duet with Sonny projected on a screen. She’s absolutely smokin’ hot, and that voice…good lord…the 8 year old girl in me died and went to heaven. And my friends, the woman is 72 freakin’ years old! Just take a gander at this shot and wrap your brain around the fact she is sporting a variation of the same leather jacket/fishnets/thong body suit that she did back when she originally released “If I Could Turn Back Time”…
We often talk about changing the perception of aging, in particular, older women. So many of us are out there every single day doing what we want, saying what we want, wearing what we want, living our lives as we see fit…regardless of our chronological age. We are chipping away at antiquated societal expectations just by doing our own thing. Cher though? She has blown those societal expectations completely out of the water and is flipping them the bird while she’s doing it. She is the epitome of living your life on your own terms, years (and the opinions of others) be damned. Cher is truly inspiring, and I’m pretty sure that we could all learn a thing or two from her…
My favorite one-liner of the night pretty much summed up her fierce attitude. After sharing her age she said, “I have one question for all of you…what is your granny doing tonight?” Indeed Cher, indeed. By the end of the show I realized that not much has changed since I was a little girl; I still want to be Cher when I grow up.
The one thing that made the show even better than it already was, was sharing it with my kids. I am lucky enough to be blessed with kids that for the most part, share my taste in music. It was just about exactly 3 years ago that my son and I had our dream date together to see Elton in concert. This time we brought along little sister since she has big love for Cher as well. I can’t tell you how special it was to share the experience with both of them. It’s like a full-circle sort of thing. Cher and her music were such an important part of my childhood and now she’s part of their lives as well. The experience and the memories, much like the music, will be a part of us forever.
THE OUTFIT
I know, I know…this outfit is pretty damn similar to the last few I’ve posted, BUT…this is the dressed up version. I promise, no more cami, cardigan/kimono, jeans combos for awhile. I had to post the concert outfit though, right?
This outfit is an example of how you can take a basic formulaic look, and with just a few tweaks, make it something a little more special. The cami and the jeans are the same as this outfit, but I switched the cardigan for this luscious black lace kimono and the boots were swapped out for the suede platform sandals. I also added a leopard print clutch/wristlet for a little extra fanciness…and I needed something to carry my phone and cards in so there was that.
THE TIP
A few simple changes in accessories and shoes can change the entire feel of a basic outfit.
