Sometimes the best memories are the ones that come back to you unexpectedly…
THE STORY
…I really have no love lost for Facebook as far as my personal page goes, but today I happened upon something that truly made me smile. A friend shared an interview with a man I worked with years ago at a local record store. He has written a book about his years in rock ‘n roll and it’s just been released.
I’m always writing about how my job is truly the best job of my entire career. And it is. But I have to say the coolest job and a super close second to the best job ever are the years that I was an assistant manager at National Record Mart, a chain music store in our local mall. I truly believed I was the incarnation of Lisa Lisa, Madonna and Paula Abdul all wrapped up in one uber-cool little package. I even had this hair…
…oh, yes I did.
And I was often decked out in get ups much like this…
…oh, yes I was.
I was the cool girl (at least in my mind) working at the record store in the mall; you know, like something out of a cheesy 80’s movie. And the best part was, I worked with some of the absolute coolest guys on the planet. They were all in bands, managed bands, wrote and produced music; you get the idea. We had our moody alternative rock guy, the 80’s metal hair band guy, and the coolest of all was the 60’s/70’s rock ‘n roll guy who toured the world and opened for the likes of Aerosmith, Ted Nugent and Bob Seger. Take a minute and pop over to Youtube and have a listen to his band, Blue Ash; truly some great 70’s rock. This is also the man who wrote the aforementioned book which I will be definitely be picking up this week.
Sweet times my friends, sweet times. I was also newly, madly in love with my husband and got pregnant with our son during that era, so that makes it extra special. We were broke and living in a small apartment, but I couldn’t have wanted anything more. So when I watched the interview it brought back so many happy memories along with a smile to my face.
THE OUTFIT
Okay, now on to the outfit. Yes, another day, another tunic dress. Hey, at least you now have a go-to source for how to style tunic dresses a thousand different ways, am I right? This black lace slip dress is the same as the burgundy lace slip dress I wore earlier in the Fall. I’ve been on the prowl for baggy/cozy tunic sweaters to layer over my lacy dresses this Winter and luckily for me, this lightweight blue sweater survived the last two clothing purges although it was in the pile to go next time…guess it gets a stay of execution.
And how about the cowboy boots? I’ve had them for eons, and they are the authentic real deal; one of the only pairs of footwear I own that actually cost some serious buckage.
“AND HOW ABOUT THE COWBOY BOOTS?
I have to say though, if you’re going to get cowboy boots, investing in a good pair is the way to go. They last forever and only get better with age; both in fit and appearance. And the mix of black with brown cut outs still works now and makes them super versatile.
THE TIP
While bargain shopping is typically the best way to go, when purchasing an item that is timeless and that you will wear over and over again for years to come, quality becomes the priority. If you look at it from a cost per wear perspective, it will be well worth it in the long run.
