Lace Slip Dress & OTK Boots: Summer In November

lace slip dress, otk boots, cocoon cardigan

You know how you often see Christmas in July celebrations in the summer…

THE STORY

…well, currently we’re having summer in November. I know from many of my blog and Insta friends that temperatures are well above average in lots of places, but yesterday’s high was 77 degrees. 77 degrees. In November. In Pennsylvania. I’m not complaining mind you. The last couple of years we were buried in snow by Thanksgiving and that I can do without. But 77 degrees?? I have no freakin’ idea what to wear to work or anywhere else for that matter. Yes, it’s hot, but it’s also November so I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around sporting a sundress as an actual sundress and not burying it under layers of knitwear. Last night I went to get takeout for dinner wearing shorts and my Birks. Seriously, what the hell?

“I HAVE NO FREAKIN’ IDEA WHAT TO WEAR TO WORK OR ANYWHERE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER.”

This is what I wore to work yesterday and during my lunch and planning time when I had no kids with me, I stripped off the sweater, the boots and my socks and spent the entire time barefoot, half-dressed and sweating like I just ran a marathon through the Mojave. While I definitely have no love lost for winter, fall is my absolute favorite season and I kind of feel like I’m being robbed. I’ve got a bad feeling that once summer realizes it took a wrong turn and it’s actually supposed to be below the equator at this time of the year, winter is going to appear with a vengeance and fall won’t stand a chance.

THE OUTFIT

I recently picked up this Free People Eyelashes Slip from 6pm.com for almost 50% off. I’ve been all up in Free People’s business lately, but I only purchase items that are on crazy sale. Believe me, I’ll scour the internet until I find what I want for a bargain price because in all honesty, Free People is a tad pricey when not on sale.

“I’LL SCOUR THE INTERNET UNTIL I FIND WHAT I WANT FOR A BARGAIN PRICE…”

I’m not a fan of yellow, trust me, it’s not my friend. But mustard is a whole different story. It works with my coloring and it has a nice fall vibe to it (even if it currently is “fummer”…fall+summer…get it?).  I guess a mustard lace slip dress is the perfect “fummer” item; it’s the best of both worlds. The open weave cardigan was necessary for some coverage while still being lightweight,  and this particular dress was just begging to be paired with otk boots, although given the heat ankle booties would have been a better choice.

THE TIP

Be sure to take the extra time to look for bargains even on pieces you really love. If you take the extra time to check sites such as Retail Me Not, ShopStyle and Brandzaffair the savings often more than make up for the little bit of extra effort you put into researching.

“BE SURE TO TAKE THE EXTRA TIME TO LOOK FOR BARGAINS…”

I feel for you guys across the pond at the moment with those temperatures. Wow, that must be sooo weird the thermometer being at 77! We’re definitely into Autumn now in London. Had a lovely Indian Summer during September and October but today is grey and drizzly and I’ve the heating on, wearing a snug long length cardigan and a mug of hot tea. I’m not helping am I??????

Love the mustard colour on you and how it stands out against the black. And those cool boots – yes please!

first of all I LOVE YOUR HAIR!! This outfit is super cute too and I was just in Philly in October and it was so chilly!! I’m surprised it warmed up! We have been having unseasonably warm weather in Savannah too and while I am not complaining I am a little concerned!

Thanks for linking up with Favorite Fashion Friday this week!

You’re looking amazing, Debbie! Your hair looks gorgeous and that mustard yellow is really great on you! Jelly! I couldn’t wear that color and I love it. And yes, I feel robbed of fall too. In California we don’t get much of it as it is, but this year we had 80s all through October. So far Nov is cooling off … finally.

Thanks for linking up!

Ah, this outfit is bordering on dark mori-kei which is one of my favorite style trends ever! You look so marvelous and I’m jealous that mustard looks like butt on me, because I love that slipdress. You must wear it frequently for those of us who aren’t so fortunate.
