Yesterday I said it was officially the Christmas season, but now it really is…
THE STORY
…Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer was on last night and that seals the deal. I love all of the old school claymation Christmas shows, I mean how can you not, but Rudolph is hands down my favorite. I have watched it every year since I was a little girl. My kids love it too because I have always made sure we watched it, usually with hot chocolate, and last night was no exception. Okay, maybe it was 50 degrees, and maybe the hot chocolate made my daughter sweat so she had to change into a tank top, but still. We own it on dvd, but I still try to catch it when it actually airs on television. My daughter laughs at me because I say the words with the characters, but ya know what? Someday she will too and she’ll think of me when she does it and that’s pretty cool in my opinion.
THE OUTFIT
I’ve been eyeing this lace slip dress for a long time now. It comes in about a gazillion colors (here, here, here) which is part of the reason it took me so long; I couldn’t decide on a color. It was hard to resist this gorgeous mauve shade. Since it’s a muted pink it will work with so many things and it adds some unexpected color to my fall/winter wardrobe. Next I plan on nabbing the navy blue and I’m pretty sure white is on the list too. It seems to be sold as a slip “dress”, but it’s pretty slip/nightgown-esque so it definitely needs something over it. It makes the perfect skirt extender which was really my intent so that’s fine with me.
“THE MUTED PINK ADDS SOME UNEXPECTED COLOR TO MY FALL/WINTER WARDROBE.”
I love the lace up detail and side slits on this Shein tunic sweater. It’s a little less slouchy than what I normally go for, but I like the “sleekness” of it. The lace up detail is what makes it stand out in my opinion. It’s going to be killer with skinny jeans and pumps or heeled ankle boots which is originally how I had planned on styling it, but I loved the lace slip dress peeking out so I went that direction instead.
My favorite way to wear my slip dresses and tunics is with over the knee boots, but honestly it was another one of those days that I should’ve went with ankle boots. Why? For whatever reason, it is 112 degrees in my classroom. Every. Single. Day. My boss describes it as “balmy”. And it is; kind of like a tropical island, you know, minus the white sand, blue water and alcoholic beverages. Point of the story is, by the time I leave at the end of the day, the inside of my boots feels like a sauna. Ew. Had I worn ankle boots though, my legs would have been chilly outside in the real world. The struggle is real my friends, the struggle is real.
THE TIP
Don’t ignore color once the weather turns colder. I know I have to make an effort to not always default to black and gray. Pastels are an easy way to add color and they are more unexpected than the deeper jewel tones.
