Lace Trim Top & Blue Booties: Mission Impossible

white lace top, blue booties, denim shorts

Yesterday I went out on what I thought was going to be a simple mission, but is anything ever as simple as one assumes it will be…

Who knew it would be pretty much impossible to find a lace trimmed slip? Half or full, either would be fine. In light of the fact I’m elfin sized and the girls take up quite a bit of space I knew it might take some patience to find one that fit and/or was the length I wanted, but I didn’t expect to find none. I came across a few (and I mean “few” literally), but they were just the basic no frills kind that I already have. I kid you not, JCPenney had zero. Not a slip to be found. The reason for the sudden slip obsession is apparently I’m going through a boho period; you know, kind of like Picasso had his Blue Period and his Rose Period; ya, I’m like the Picasso of style. I picked up a really cute Free People dress on sale at Nordstrom and it’s a hair too short for my liking so I wanted to get a slip that would be pretty peeking out at the hem to give it some length. I’m going a few more places today, but if I were a bettin’ girl, I’d bet I’ll end up ordering one online. Is it just the fashion-deprived area in which I live, or are slips really that hard to find?

In keeping with my current obsession, this outfit is leaning in the direction of boho too. I didn’t put it together intentionally, but apparently my subconscious has gone all hippie chick on me. The white lace trim top isn’t necessarily boho-esque on it’s own. When I wore it with my red pants back in the Spring it was just a basic lace trim top, but pair it with the blue suede booties and denim shorts and it takes on a whole new look. In my opinion, pairing the right ankle booties with shorts or a dress/skirt can take the look into boho territory. Think about it, if I’d gone with Converse instead of the boots, this outfit would have an entirely different feel to it. This is yet another example of how shoes and/or accessories can change a look.

Have you tried thrift stores? I always see half and full slips there.
Also check the skirt section. I bought a skirt to wear under dresses that a just a tad too short for me. It works!
I got the idea from Sheila at Ephemera.

Try searching for dress or blouse extenders. Several boutiques in my area carry them for tall girls, like my daughte. They’re basically a slip, but with a little more of a nice trim!

Yea, I just wrote a big long comment and my laptop ate it. Now the short and sweet version – good luck with your hunt. You look marvelous! I am now so wanting to try a booties and shorts look (just not with bootie shorts…)! Probably coming soon. 🙂

Cutest boots ever! I must pay more attention to Target shoes .. it just seems that in my area .. the shoes are always a mess, no sizes and so I don’t bother (sigh). I should write a note to the store 😛

I hope you are able to find the slip you want. That’s no fun to be shopping forever for one thing, been there and it is no fun. Cute top!

Looking gorgeous, Debbie! And yeah, I don’t see many slips around these days, but your idea of using one to add length to a skirt is brilliant. Gonna file that away in my list of tricks to try!

Thanks so much for being a part of Fun Fashion Friday!

slips are a thing of the past I swear, no where to be found, at least not pretty ones, thrift stores are your best bet. Great look
