It’s been awhile since I’ve I had a good complete and utter nonsense story to share with you all…
THE STORY
…and for that I apologize. I just haven’t been in the right frame of mind to view the world through my nonsense goggles lately. Yesterday in the midst of a hot mess of a situation when I may or may not have been on the edge of morphing into a chihuahua on crack (see here for an explanation of that), I found them again. And in the most unlikeliest of places. Apparently our insurance agent had my nonsense goggles. Actually I think he has his very own pair which in turn reminded me to put mine on. First let me say that we have dealt with the same insurance agent for about thirty years and he’s a really cool guy. I’m just explaining that ahead of time so that you don’t find it peculiar that he and I went off on this bizarre tangent I’m about to share.
He lives in the same area as my husband and I and there’s pretty much one primary highway (if you want to be generous and call it that) we travel on to get home. We were chit chatting about this one spot that constantly has potholes that you have to go into the passing lane to avoid when he says, “Hey! Do you know where that big wide open field is that kind of goes uphill and you can see a chain link fence with barbed wire at the top of the hill? It’s just past the spot with the potholes.” I said, “Ya! What is that?” Here’s the thing, this fence has been there for years and years. It’s a gently sloping hill and in the summer the corn grows on the hillside in front of this fence so you can’t see it, although most of the year it’s barely visible at the top of the hill. There’s no access road or lane and it’s just kind of randomly there. I’ve puzzled over it before, but oddly enough for me since I have an eye for the weirdness in the world, I haven’t really put thought into it.
Anyway, after I asked what it was, he says “Look…” and starts turning his computer screen so I can see it. I said, “Stop it…did you seriously Google Earth it?” “Heck ya! You gotta see this. I swear it’s some secret government missile silo.” And I am of course sitting there disappointed in myself because it never occurred to me to Google Earth it. He pulls up the image and it is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen… Enclosed in metal barbed wire fence are these two ginormous perfect gray/black squares. Each one is outlined in stark white. And there’s this little dirt access road that goes through the field from a side country back road and ends at a gate in the fence. WTH??? And if that’s not weird enough, he proceeds to tell me that he knows someone that lives near there, whom he swore is a credible source, and he was told that they have seen black SUV’s going in and out as well as helicopters landing from time to time…double WTH???
I told him that he better watch out… now that the government knows he’s onto them he’ll leave work some night and the black SUV’s will be waiting for him in the parking lot. I did assure him though that when I see in the paper he’s gone missing I’ll be sure to expose the truth… 🙂
THE OUTFIT
How cool is the color combination on this lavender print sundress I found at Target? It just struck me as really different; lavender, brown, burgundy and coral…who woulda thought? And it has it’s own built in lace under layer. I so wanted to provide you guys with a link, but alas, it doesn’t appear to be available online. The suede double wrap belt gave it some shape and a denim jacket (or vest) just makes everything a hair cooler than it would be otherwise. As is the case with all of my sundresses, you’ll be seeing it again in the fall/winter either layered over or under something for warmth. I mean seriously, how cute will it be under my burgundy tunic sweater or the camel tunic sweater with over the knee boots?
THE TIP
Keep an eye out for unexpected color combinations. I would have seriously never thought to put these particular colors together, but now I’ll definitely be trying it with other pieces in my closet.
