I’m sure that by this point in life we are all aware that…
THE STORY
…quality time with our girlfriends is like a breath of fresh air for the soul. Nothing will set you back on course quicker or make your heart happier then even just a few hours with a friend that truly gets you; a friend that knows your dark side and all of your weird little quirks and loves you even more for them.
As I’ve gotten older (and presumably wiser) I have narrowed that group down substantially. I can count on one hand the women who are my girls. When I was younger, I learned the hard way that just because someone makes you laugh and has things in common with you that does not make them your friend. Hence the tight group. I would rather have a group of 2 or 3 ride or die babes then a group of 20 who would drop me the minute the going got tough.
I’m fortunate enough that my bestie works side by side with me in my classroom every single day. That’s all well and good, but nothing beats a day when we can just hang out and do our thang. Yesterday I totally felt like a kid again because we decided to both take a personal day from work with the plan to spend the entire day together doing whatever struck our fancy.
Getting ready in the morning I was so excited…it seriously felt like back in high school when I would decide to skip school and the only real plan I had was to run wild and free with my friends unfettered by responsibility of any kind. On a side note…if you were one of those good girls who never did things like that, you really missed out…lol! I highly recommend trying it now…you won’t regret it.
We went to a nearby town and had coffee and cheesecake for breakfast…we ran amok in Target and bought matching tops…we were in and out of three nail salons in search of a pedicure, which we finally got…and we laughed all day at complete and utter nonsense. Oh, and we stopped to pick up our prescriptions because we are actually adults after all…
We actually have a busy and stressful rest of the week ahead of us at work, but do you know what? Yesterday is what is going to get us through it because we are going into it with a lighter heart and memories that will make us laugh just thinking about them. No matter what life throws at you, it’s all good if you know you have that one person who will forget their responsibilities for awhile and just eat cheesecake for breakfast with you…
THE OUTFIT
This month’s Ageless Style Link Up theme chosen by Lisa is super fun, because I know we’ll all have entirely different spins on it; Spring/Summer Accessories…see what I mean? That’s open to a million different interpretations and I can’t wait to see what direction we all went. Before I go any further with the outfit, can we take a moment to welcome our new 10th member to the Ageless Style tribe, Shugunna of Nzuri N* Simplicity…welcome aboard my new friend!
Back when I got my pretty coral iPhone Xr, I didn’t want to cover it with my usual leather card carrier/phone case…it was just too pretty! Instead I got a clear phone case and have been slowly but surely acquiring a collection of wristlet/wallet/clutches that are the just right size for my phone, cards and some cash. Last week I happened upon this delicious slice of real, soft, smooshy (that’s a word right?) leather at our local TJ Maxx. The smooshy leather is what initially attracted me, but add the embossed boho-esque print and it was a done deal. The craftsmanship is phenomenal and the price was definitely right for real leather; I’ve linked to the exact one below if you’re interested. 🙂
I can promise you, this particular leather clutch will be used often and loved well as it’s perfect with all of my boho warm weather pieces, much like the duster I’m wearing today. I found it at Target a year or two ago and it looks just as fab with shorts in the heat of Summer as it it does with denim in the Fall. I can also see this peplum tank top I recently scored from American Eagle in four different colors becoming a fan favorite this Summer. The soft, lightweight tee shirt material makes it perfect for scorching heat.
Finally, I think the block heel sandals and black pants are what made the difference here between a more casual look and one that’s a little dressier. Each one of these pieces can go either direction depending upon what you pair them with, but together they made the perfect boho chic work look.
THE TIP
9 times out of 10, accessories and shoes are what make an outfit. The right shoes and accessories can take a casual every day look and turn it into something special with very little effort.
