Every few weeks I like to share random things with you that caught my interest while perusing the Internet…
THE STORY
…This week is sort of a mixed bag, but the one constant as you might know by now, is at least one good dog story…
- This man in Greece is my hero this week; he believes that it is his life’s mission to rescue abandoned dogs. It all started when he discovered an abandoned and injured pup at a local garbage dump, and eventually grew to become Takis Shelter where he currently loves and cares for over 342 homeless pups. He is truly an inspiration, and you can follow his journey on his Facebook page…you know that I’m following!
- If you’re on Instagram then I’m sure that you’ve probably seen photos of people posing in front of various angel wing murals over the last few years. I recently discovered an angel wings mural while I was in Greensburg with my son and of course posted a snap of them on my Instagram. The artist who started it all, muralist Kelsey Montague, was recently commissioned to paint a mural for the release of the new Taylor Swift single. This article includes photos of her work as well as (and this is the cool part) a map of where her murals are located all across the country. You can check to see if there’s a mural near you so that you can have your own Instagram moment! Weird side note…this past Summer I saw a wing mural on Carson Street in Pittsburgh when I was shopping with my kids. I wanted a shot sooo… bad, but there were cars parked in the way so I gave up. When I checked out the map in the article, guess what? Those wings are Kelsey Montague originals! Guess I’ll be heading back to Carson Street…
- I’m not here to debate the morality of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. I did however want to share this really cool nugget of information. I’m 100% for inclusiveness in all areas, and Sports Illustrated is at least making an effort to get on board. In this year’s edition for the first time ever, the beautiful Muslim supermodel Halima Aden will make history by wearing a hijab and burkini. I won’t lie, I wasn’t sure what a burkini was until I checked out the article.
- These two Summer 2019 color trends are colors that I already own a bunch of and rock on a regular basis. I bet you already own both of them too…
- Did you see this story about the three men (and amazing human beings) in Alabama who invited an elderly woman who was eating alone to have dinner with them? Turns out she was recently widowed and her 60th wedding anniversary was the next day. Do check it out; it’s one of those stories that reminds you that good people do still exist.
- This last one is for all of the bloggers out there. Recently a group of us had a discussion about rates and charging for sponsored posts. If you are considering monetizing your blog then you need a rate sheet and this article provides a solid explanation of how to put one together. After reading it I actually created mine on Canva in about a half an hour.
THE OUTFIT
Seriously, how cute is this leopard jumpsuit? My daughter and I were shopping at a local boutique a few weeks ago when I discovered it. It drew me in like a moth to a flame…I tried it on, it fit perfectly and that was all she wrote. Fortunately, jumpsuits are still going strong and are available in just about every color and print imaginable so I’m sure this won’t be the last. Actually I really was not a fan of jumpsuits until last Summer. I just wasn’t interested in doing that much work to go to the bathroom.
Yes, they are still a pain when one has to use the restroom. The struggle is real; especially if you have a piece layered over top like I sometimes do in the Winter. But that struggle is more than made up for in the comfort and ease of getting dressed that a jumpsuit provides. I love nothing more than being comfortable, and the right jumpsuit feels like wearing pajamas all day.
They make the perfect foundation piece to build on too. This leopard jumpsuit is super cute all by itself and I’ll be wearing it minus the belt and tee with casual sandals this Summer. This day though, I wore it to work and it was super easy to make it work worthy. I simply belted it, layered a tee underneath and added my black platform sandals. The next time I think I’ll style it with a striped tee, my red block heel sandals and red clutch for a little extra kick.
It will also make an excellent Fall/Winter layering piece. A black turtleneck and tights underneath, along with a pair of cute ankle boots and it will be good to go in colder weather too.
THE TIP
If you haven’t yet, consider giving jumpsuits a try. A jumpsuit is a quick solution for getting dressed in the morning, and it’s an easy piece to add accessories to if you want to change up the look.
