As I’ve said before, I’m more of an online shopper than a mall girl…
THE STORY
…but yesterday my mini, her BFF and I made the trek to the mall. And I have to say it was somewhat of a disappointment. I hit up all of my favorite haunts; Target, Old Navy and Forever 21, but to no avail. It’s that awkward time of year in the retail world. The winter things are pretty picked over and it’s not full-on Spring/Summer just yet. Don’t get me wrong, there were indeed swimsuits galore, but the clothes that were out were kind of “meh”. I picked up a couple tops on clearance and I did score the brown version of these ghillie lace up flats for $12 so the trip wasn’t a total loss. And besides, where else can you be entertained by two tween girls trying on clothes together and buying things that match so they can wear them to school on the same day?
THE OUTFIT
Here I am, yet again, wearing a leopard pencil skirt when apparently women over 35 presumably will spontaneously combust if they dare venture into the public eye sporting something so outrageous. What can I say? I guess I’m just a rebel like that. And I haven’t burst into flames yet, so I guess that spontaneous combustion thing must be an urban legend. This is my most favorite kind of leopard pencil skirt; the stretchy kind. And no, that has nothing to do with age. I’ve always been a fan of comfy stuff. I guess I was kind of hoping the comfort of the skirt and tunic sweater would counteract the discomfort of the tights. Ya, that didn’t happen. I swear, tights have got to be my absolute least favorite thing about cold weather wear. And as much as I love cheating and wearing leggings instead, that just wasn’t going to work with a pencil skirt my friends. Besides the warmth factor, the black tights also helped lengthen the leg line since I went with ankle boots instead of pumps. We elfin size girls have to keep things like that in mind. These boots are replacements for my current pair which I’ve just about worn to death. I’ll get a few more wears out of them this season and then we’ll have to part ways. But that’s okay, because the slouchy deliciousness of this pair coupled with the brown wraparound lace put them on the shortlist to become my new favorites.
THE TIP
If you’re petite and concerned about chopping up your leg line and looking even shorter, then keep your footwear (especially if you’re wearing ankle boots) the same or close to the same color as your tights/pants/leggings. Going with a different color can visually cut things off. Honestly, sometimes that is irrelevant to me. If I’m feeling brown ankle boots with black leggings then I do it, leg line be damned.
