It’s that time of the year when my days of leisure (as if) are rapidly dwindling away…
THE STORY
…I’m actually heading into school this morning to get my classroom set up, and our first inservice day is Thursday so yep, Summer for all intents and purposes has taken its final bow. Although it’s the end of Summer, it’s not the end of Weekly Randomness:
- Yesterday on our way into town we passed a local farm that has a herd of cows, and this question popped into my mind…How do cows decide to spend their day? You see, every time I go by there, the entire gang (with the exception of one or two rebels) is pretty much all together hanging out; sometimes in the corner near some trees, sometimes closer to the road near the fence. Yesterday they were all at the top of the pasture near the barn. Well, how do they decide where the day’s hangout is? Is there one head cow in charge that makes such decisions? Does one cow get bored and wander off so the rest decide to follow? Is there a daily rotation schedule posted in the barn? Yes, I realize that I’m a weirdo, but I wanna know. One of my coworkers is a farmer who owns cows so I think that asking that question is going to be on my agenda for Thursday. Perhaps he has some insight into the psychology of cows…
- One of the sites that I follow in my news feed publishes a list every week or so of odd but useful products on Amazon that I always check out. I’ve actually gotten some cool things that I otherwise would’ve never known about. This list of 42 Weirdly Brilliant Products on Amazon is no exception. Even if I don’t find things that I want, there are always items that make me think, “Wow, that’s genius!” On this list I’m particularly intrigued by the scalp massager and the MacGuyver-esqu hair clips, because seriously, who doesn’t need a hair clip that can also be used as a screwdriver?
- This past Saturday I went vintage shopping in Pittsburgh with my son and daughter to find a homecoming dress for her. While perusing the racks I found the single most beautiful coat in the history of coats; it’s 1940’s era, long, red and with the most breathtaking details. When I tried it on light shown down from the heavens and I heard a choir of angels…it was quite literally made for me. It even replaces my vintage pink plaid coat which has always been the crown the crown jewel of my Winter coat collection. If you want a sneak peek, check out the Stylin’ tab in my Instagram stories…and feel free to follow me on Instagram if you aren’t already! (yes, that was a shameless plug)
- This list of 50 Things From the 80’s that most of us have completely forgotten about is fun. I remember just about every single thing on the list. A lot of it even pre-dates the 80’s…remember when Quik came in a metal tin and Tang came in a jar??
THE OUTFIT
I wore this outfit on the previously aforementioned vintage shopping trip Saturday. My son and daughter took the shots on an iphone in various spots near East Carson Street in Pittsburgh. On a side note, please excuse the hot mess on top of my head. It was like a billion percent humidity Saturday so a big hair pile was the only way to go.
I’ve been looking for a midi length fuller cut leopard print skirt for awhile now. I already have a pencil style leopard print skirt, but I wanted one with more movement. I found this one for 50% off on Nasty Gal just a few weeks ago, but at 50% off it’s sadly already sold out. I did link to a few similar options below. This one is satiny, soft and pretty with a faux wrap front. Even though the front is faux wrap, a safety pin will definitely be in order the next time that I wear it.
Since I love the look of a graphic tee and sneakers with a nice skirt, I went with my Def Leppard tee and Adidas. The Adidas were also good for prowling the streets shopping for vintage while still being comfortable. Since we were shopping, that’s also why I wore a swishy skirt and lightweight tee. I’m a lazy shopper and don’t like to get undressed to try things on if I can avoid it. A lightweight simple top makes it easy to slide things on over top of it, while a swishy skirt gives you room to slip a pair of pants or jeans underneath for try-on purposes.
THE TIP
You can dress appropriately for specific activities while still maintaining your personal style. With a little planning and forethought you can be ready for anything while staying true to your own style. If a shopping trip is on your agenda, think comfort and ease. You want to be able to walk around without pain so sneakers or flats are a good choice. Keep your outfit simple so that try-on’s are as pain free as possible.
