Mock Turtleneck & Buffalo Plaid Shirt: Serious Underestimation

Mock turtleneck, buffalo plaid shirt and slouchy ankle boots. Layering for winter.

Well, my Christmas shopping is just about finished. I did have to break my cardinal rule of Christmas shopping though…

THE STORY

…Never enter a mall after Thanksgiving Day. Perhaps rule is too strong of a word. It’s more like a guideline by which I live my life. Typically what I need from actual brick and mortar stores I pick up prior to the holidays, and then I complete the bulk of my Christmas shopping online. As I said last week, somehow this year time got away from me and Christmas was looming over me with not much shopping completed.

I decided to take a personal day Friday in order to get the shopping done. In light of the hot mess last week was, a day off was a good idea shopping or not. Being the delusional fool that I sometimes am, I figured that shopping during the day would mean the mall would be less populated with humans. Um…no; not nine days before Christmas. Serious underestimation on my part my friends.

I waited in line to check out at Old Navy for over twenty minutes. Twenty. Minutes. Thank God for my phone. The upside of long lines was having plenty of idle time to catch up on Instagram and the news. I suppose every cloud has a silver lining if you look hard enough. The good news is I think I got pretty much all of my shopping finished. I say “I think” because I still need to sort and organize what I got Friday along with what I already had. At least I can say with confidence that the bulk of it is finito.

THE OUTFIT

Last month I shared my discovery of Angels Jeans skinny jeans with you here and here as well as my newfound non-aversion to bootcut jeans. They also have a pretty sweet selection of tops. This burgundy mock turtleneck is the perfect layering piece for this time of the year. I’ll be honest with you, when it’s under twenty degrees like it was the day I wore it, it’s definitely not substantial enough to go it alone. Although really what is if it’s under twenty? In any case it’s super soft and lightweight enough that even with the long sleeves it easily layered under the buffalo plaid shirt.

I picked the slouchy wrapped ankle boots up last year because I loved the brown wraparound lace detail. They were just the right height to pair with my cropped boyfriend fit black trousers which I also have in gray.

THE TIP

Winter layers do not always have to mean bulky. Layering two or even three lighter weight pieces, will do the trick as well. Warmth without the addition of five extra pounds is always a good thing.

I am going very early in the morning, hoping that one half is at work and the other is still waking up! Those colors are very nice with your hair and I love the nails.

I try to do most of my shopping online but now that I’m down to the wire, I’m hitting the mall. Wish me luck! Love the plaid and layers! Perfect look for the season!

Well, I seriously love this look, therefore I featured it on Thursday Moda today. I even have an almost identical buffalo plaid shirt and I just picked up a dark maroon mock neck. Will try this. Your booties are so cute and I love how you layered the necklaces. Shopping anytime between Thanksgiving and Dec 26th especially, is a nightmare. But I still prefer the stores. Hope you had a great Christmas Debbie. Miss you. =)
