I saw something today on my way to the store that initially caused my mouth to drop open, but then I decided it just may well be one of the coolest things I’ve seen around here in a long time. I’ve lamented many times about the way people dress in my little corner of the world, and realistically you’ll probably hear about it again because I can’t imagine my area becoming the epicenter of international fashion any time soon.
A few blocks from my house I notice this woman standing by the road talking to her neighbors. As I get closer I realize that she is probably in her way late 50’s, maybe 60’s and she is wearing the following: a black shiny one piece bathing suit with a flippy little skirt attached, several rhinestone and gold necklaces, the cutest brown ankle booties topped off with gi-freakin-normous super curly black permed hair with a rhinestone barrette in the side and a hella lot of makeup. Her finishing touch? Hedge clippers. I kid you not. I could not make this stuff up, even if I wanted to.
As I said, at first I was thinking “WTH??”, but on the way back I see her again. This time there’s a pick up truck at the end of her drive full of hedge clippings. The tailgate was down and she’s lounging across it all nonchalant, chattin’ it up on her cell with her hedge clippers leaning beside her. And I decided right then, I think this woman is my new hero. It might have been an utterly crazy look, but she was ownin’ it and she was proud of what she had goin’ on. And isn’t that what getting dressed is all about? I could absolutely kick myself for not stopping and telling her she’s crazy fabulous. I mean seriously, who does that?! Who wakes up and thinks, “Hey, I’m going to trim the hedges and do some gardening and I’ve got just the outfit for it…my black bathing suit, brown ankle booties and all of my favorite statement necklaces.” And you guys know, any good yard work outfit calls for rhinestone barrettes and full makeup, am I right? If I see her again, I’m gonna have to stop.
This is the Niagara Falls outfit I promised you here. Although this time I was smart enough to pair it with a denim jacket…see, I’m a fast learner. Also if you recall, we went to the Butterfly Conservatory. And yes, I wore my Butterfly Van’s to the Butterfly Conservatory with my butterfly tattoos. I love butterflies…what can I say? It was a road trip and theme day all rolled into one.
