It’s no secret that I’m a huge dog lover. If I didn’t have my husband to keep me under control I’d be the crazy neighborhood dog lady; that would be the canine equivalent of the crazy neighborhood cat lady…
THE STORY
…I realize that not everyone is a dog lover, and that’s okay. Although if a person isn’t at least a dog “liker” I get somewhat suspicious. I mean, seriously, how can you not love (or at least like) dogs? They have such gentle souls, and all they really want is to be loved and to love you in return. Alright, I’ll get off my soapbox now and get on with the story.
My dogs are like my children. Albeit with hair all over them, no opposable thumbs and the inability to walk upright. So you can imagine what a spaz I am if something happens to one of them. Yesterday morning around 5 a.m. my husband woke me up from a dead sleep and told me that Macie was gone. Macie is our pugabull; ya, I made that up, she’s a pug/bullie mix. And she happens to be my baby girl.
Talk about waking the hell up. That had me upright and running for the door at a speed no human who was very recently sound asleep should be moving. I won’t lie. It involved some tripping and running into walls. Now our backyard is like a compound. There is 6 foot stockade fence enclosing the entire yard, including the driveway which has a gate. There had been a thunderstorm Wednesday night and apparently the wind had been strong enough to blow the gate loose. Well, my little gremlin (yes, her face kind of resembles a gremlin) had discovered this and snuck out when my husband had let the dogs out while getting ready for work.
So here I am at 5 a.m. roaming around on the streets in my pajamas (and wouldn’t ya know it was one of those nights I had worn actual shortie pajamas to bed and not sweats) half asleep and yelling “Macie!” at the top of my lungs. And when I say the streets I mean the streets. We have no sidewalks so I was meandering up the middle of the street. Yelling. In shortie pajamas. And giant bedhead. At 5 a.m. In hindsight…that had to have been something…to look out your window and see that. Fortunately, I heard my husband call for me and say he had found her. She was prowling around the fence line. Apparently she was just interested in checking out what was on the other side. I just wish she would have left me a note or something so I would have known not to make a spectacle of myself in plain view of the entire neighborhood.
THE OUTFIT
This blue peplum cami is one of the things I picked up online when Old Navy was having a ginormous sale a couple of months ago. I snagged it for under ten bucks. When I received it, I absolutely loved it, but alas, no more in my size. But guess what? While searching for links to similar styles for you guys I discovered it’s back in stock…and $13.97!!! Yep, you guessed it. More are on their way. I’m sporting the denim boyfriend shorts today, because, I can’t believe I’m saying this, but they haven’t made an appearance on the blog for awhile. The vest I received c/o Covered Perfectly a year or so ago. It’s super lightweight, thus making it the perfect layering piece for hot summer weather. It’s like a layer that you don’t even realize you’re wearing.
THE TIP
Yes, you can do layers in the summer. I love layers because they are an easy way to add so much interest to an outfit. The key to layering in summer is keep it lightweight. As in super lightweight. The peplum cami is a rayon blend and the vest is a chiffon like material that weighs next to nothing so it didn’t up the hot factor in the least.
