Last August I had the opportunity to attend the fashion show at Style Week Pittsburgh…
THE STORY
…and it was such a great experience. I think figuring out what to wear was almost as much fun as actually being there. The dress I was originally going to go with got vetoed at the last minute when my daughter said, “That’s the perfect first day of school dress!” If it was perfect for the first day of school then maybe not so much for a fashion event.
Style Week Pittsburgh first came into being in 2013. The idea behind it was to raise awareness about fashion and fashion focused brands in Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh area region. Each year there are different events hosted at various locations throughout the city geared towards highlighting Pittsburgh area designers, boutiques, fashionistas and anyone involved in the world of fashion and design.
Part of the four day event is the Style Awards, which recognizes leading men and women involved in a variety of ways in the fashion industry and honors them for their achievements. Last week I received an email informing me that I had been nominated for Fashion & Lifestyle Blogger Of The Year. Mind officially blown. Seriously. I swear I read the email like three times before I fully comprehended it. It seems so trite to say, but it is honestly an honor just to be nominated. I met many fabulous people while I was there, and the fact that someone I talked with felt that Fashion Fairy Dust was worthy of being nominated is beyond cool.
Do you know what else would be beyond cool? If you would take just a second and head over to the Style Week Pittsburgh website and vote for me. I would so appreciate it!
THE OUTFIT
I’ve been looking to bulk up my summer wardrobe recently. Shorts that aren’t denim (still haven’t found any that I like) and tops that aren’t plain tank tops that I’d do yard work in were at the top of my list. When I happened upon this pink flounce tank top at JCPenney on sale for $12.99 I was all over it. My lace tank top that I wore last week is actually identical except, well, it’s lace. I paired it with my distressed boyfriend jeans since the temperature was a hair cooler then sweltering, and I brought the plaid shirt along for the ride because I was running errands and you just never know when you’re going to run into arctic air conditioning. Besides, sometimes tying a shirt around your hips just makes an outfit a little more interesting.
THE TIP
Tying a shirt, plaid or otherwise, around your hips adds some visual interest as well as some casual cool nonchalance to an otherwise every day outfit.
