Even though as I got ready to leave for work this morning it was a bone-chilling 24° it would appear that Spring has, for the most part, arrived in my corner of the world…
THE STORY
…And I could not be happier about it. By this point in the year it’s a struggle to take even one more day locked in away from the cold; the walls literally feel like they are closing in.
If you think about it, the changing seasons are a funny thing. Each is unique and open to a variety of interpretations depending on your point of view. For example, to me, Fall is more like a new beginning than any other season whereas many view Spring in the same light. I think that Fall seems more exciting and full of possibilities because I teach and the beginning of a new school year always feels like a fresh chance at reinvention just like it did when I was a kid.
While Fall feel like reinvention, Spring feels like a reemergence of sorts and I love that. I think it’s a result of being holed up inside for seemingly endless months enduring the frigid cold and mind-numbingly short dark days. It’s like all of a sudden the sun is out, the birds can be heard in the trees and the tulips and daffodils are tentatively peeking out of the dirt next to my porch. I can throw open my doors, step outside and take in a deep breath of fresh clean warm air that doesn’t flash freeze my lungs. It’s time to start reassembling our outdoor living spaces. Honestly, few things make me happier than realizing it’s 8 p.m. and it’s still daylight outside. Anyone who doesn’t believe that sunshine is good for the soul has never endured the darkness of Winter.
For me, Spring and Fall are reminders to enjoy every single moment because while they are both so very good for the soul, ironically they are also the shortest of the seasons. It seems that just as quickly as Spring arrives, it vanishes into the heat of Summer; the crisp air and beautiful leaves of Fall are there but for a flash before the cold Winter winds blow the trees bare. For now though? I’m going to soak up every ray of sunshine, revel in the beauty of every flower that blooms in my yard and enjoy every second moving our lives back outside, free of the constraints of Winter…
THE OUTFIT
I haven’t featured a day off look in quite a long time. In the Summer all you get is casual and denim, and now it seems I’m totally neglecting the denim sector of my closet. Actually the last time my jeans made an appearance was exactly a month ago with my plaid duster.
I put this look together for my Sunday morning movie date with my love. As most of you probably know, I’m a boyfriend jeans girl through and through, but lately I’ve been reaching for my skinny jeans more often since I discovered the delicious comfort that is AE skinny jeans. This particular pair is the crop jegging, and my friends, they are as soft and comfortable as the name implies. They also come without the rips for those of you who prefer your jeans in one piece.
I last wore this sweet little Spring sweater with my tulle skirt and today I changed it up by layering it over one of my peplum cami’s. The cami adds a cute little extra detail to the otherwise casual vibe. And no, I’m not delusional. This isn’t necessarily one of the most “figure flattering” outfits, but honestly, that’s not one of those things that’s ever too high on my list of priorities. I don’t set out to put together outfits that make me appear boxy or otherwise shapeless, but if I like something and I think it’s pretty, I wear it. I still know that my waist is there and that’s all that matters.
I finished it off with my favorite moto jacket. Seriously, how can you resist pink suede and floral embroidery on a traditionally masculine piece? I only had the chance to wear it once in the Fall before it got too cold, so for now it’s definitely going to be on heavy rotation. Unfortunately the exact jacket is sold out, but I did link several similar options for you below if you’re looking for a fresh way to wear a moto jacket for Spring.
THE TIP
Don’t always be caught up in whether or not an outfit is “flattering” in the traditional sense of the word. If you think what you’re wearing is pretty, you’re going to feel great wearing it. And that my friends, will be flattering to who you are and how you feel…and isn’t that what really matters?
