Print Tunic & Knit Vest: We Are The World

print tunic, knit vest, skinny jeans, ankle booties

I promised you some more deliciousness from Firefly Clothing and since I always deliver on my promises…

THE STORY

…here it is. I told you in last Wednesday’s post about my new found love for Firefly Clothing.  I won’t bore you again with all of the details, but if you didn’t read about it then please take a quick gander and see exactly what I’m talking about. Trust me, you don’t want to miss out on this standout Australia-based company.

One of the items I’m wearing today is this fabulous black gilet. For my American readers, in case you’re curious, a gilet is a vest. No, I’m not getting all pretentious on you; I had no idea what a gilet was until I started blogging. Nor did I know that a tank top is also known as a vest or a singlet depending upon where you are in the world. Quite honestly, one of my favorite things that has happened as a result of blogging is that I have learned so much about people and places in other parts of the world. If not for my blog I would have never had that opportunity. While it is true that technology can become a ridiculous nuisance in our real lives if we allow it to, the flip side of that is it opens up a whole world of potential friendships and experiences.

“QUITE HONESTLY, ONE OF MY FAVORITE THINGS THAT HAS HAPPENED AS A RESULT OF BLOGGING IS THAT I HAVE LEARNED SO MUCH ABOUT PEOPLE AND PLACES IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD…”

And perhaps more interesting than the differences are the similarities. I have found friends in all parts of the world who share life experiences similar to mine and it’s just so cool to know that no matter how different we are, at the heart of it all we’re really the same.

THE OUTFIT

The two pieces I’m wearing in today’s post are the Karo Aztec Tunic and the Brooke Gilet. I had a hard time styling this gorgeous print tunic because there were so many possibilities. Originally I had it belted, over leggings. Then belted with the vest over leggings. Since I wasn’t feeling very “beltish” that day, I went belt-free and somehow ended up with skinny jeans instead of leggings. Indecisive much? And as you can see, it’s plenty long enough to wear as a dress with tights or bare legs. One caveat; since it is so loose fitting and not quite as flowy as the Marley tunic dress, a belt or vest would be best as to avoid looking boxy. Unless of course you’re long and lean like a supermodel, in which case boxiness wouldn’t be an issue for you I suppose.

THE TIP

If you’re styling a tunic or dress that has no defined shape to it, try adding a belt, vest or blazer to give it shape. Especially if it is made out of a thicker more substantial material and/or you’re petite.

“TRY ADDING A BELT, VEST OR BLAZER TO GIVE SHAPE TO A TUNIC…”

Love the vest. Or gilet. You’re right about cultural similarities and differences. I’m surprised how much we have in common with gals around the world. I chat regularly with women from South Africa, New Zealand, Europe, etc. Never did that before the Internet.

I learned the term Gilet a while ago. It is so funny how different clothes/articles of clothing have different terms in different English-speaking countries. Anyway, your vest and tunic are gorgeous and I agree that belting a boxy tunic is best. I have learned so much more about the language of fashion, due to blogging.

In my latest post I have styled a tunic dress and have several options, with a belt and with a vest, or both. Come take a peek. =)

Very nice~ I like how the vest is short and how it breaks up the pattern of the tunic.

Thanks for the style tip! Love the aztec print and colours of your tunic. With my shape I also need to add a belt or something. You look great!

Now you’ll know what they call a vest in France, since that is where the word comes from : )

Love the colors and print of your tunic! The fur vest is perfect layered over it! I agree, one of the best things about blogging is learning about people and places all over the world!
