No, this post has nothing to do with actual dogs; or cows or chickens for that matter. In this case it’s simply a turn of phrase, because my friends I have some super exciting news…
I’m going to be attending Style Week Pittsburgh on August 12th so I really will be playin’ with the big dogs if only for one night!! Yes, me. The girl whose most major fashion moment is deciding what to wear to get groceries at Walmart. And even more exciting I’m going with my beautiful IRL bestie Heidi, @la_hipmadame and my uber fabulous Instafriend @deethomasprj! As a side note, if you’re not following both of them on Instagram, you need to. Pronto.
Heidi and I have never met Dee in person, so you can imagine how excited we all are to meet up. I know, I know…I’ve used some form of the word excite so many times I’m probably getting on your nerves. But honestly, I feel like a Jack Russell terrier on amphetamines. Yes, that’s how excited I am. Now I just have to figure out what to wear…#bloggerproblems. Trust me, I’ll keep you all updated.
How beautiful and unique are these Ikwetta beaded sandals? Ikwetta is one of those rare businesses that you can really get behind. All of their products are handcrafted by artisans in Kenya. Every purchase further supports their philosophy of making beautiful handmade products while at the same time helping to provide employment and building up the local community where the workshop is located. How great is that? It’s one of those situations where everybody wins.
I chose the Turkana Tie-Backs because I really liked the tie detail on the back of the sandal; it made them a little different from your average summer sandal. I styled them with my red sharkbite dress because while the color is definitely a standout, the design is simple and I wanted the sandals to take center stage. I threw in the bracelet because the beading echoed the style and colors in the sandals. While we’re on the subject, what are your thoughts on the dress? I’ve had it for years, but I’ve only worn it once. It’s super comfortable, but I’ve never been entirely happy with how it looks; I’ve tried belting it, layering it…and still I haven’t been sure. It’s escaped the annual closet purge several times, but still it gets no love. I guess I have a sort of twisted love/hate relationship with it. So, keep it or pitch it?
