How much thought do you put into what you put on each morning? Do you throw on whatever is in the front of your closet in a mad dash to get out of the house? Do you plan your daily outfits a week in advance?…
THE STORY
…Or perhaps you dress for a specific situation or event that’s on the calendar for the day? Do you put on something that your significant other will find pleasing? Maybe you’re like me, and on any given day any one of these scenarios might be in play.
Yes, my recurring mantra is to dress to make yourself happy, and I firmly believe that needs to be the foundation of your personal style. With that being said, we all have days when not only are we running late, but every single thing we try on looks (to ourselves at least) not quite right. Hence, we grab whatever is closest. At the beginning of the school year (which to me is more like the New Year than January 1st) I’m full of good intentions and plan my outfits well in advance. Ya, that lasts all of about one week. Typically before I go to bed at night, even if I don’t lay out what I’ll be wearing the next day, I at least have an idea what I want to wear so that I’m not entirely at a loss come 5 a.m.
There are also occasions when an event requires a particular dress code; whether it be an important meeting at work or a wedding, sometimes we have to adhere to a stricter set of rules. And I do from time to time dress specifically in something I know that my husband will love. No, it does not make me a 1950’s housewife to say that sometimes I wear something specifically to put a twinkle in my man’s eye. Friends, there’s not a thing wrong with that…seriously, who doesn’t want to make the one they love happy. Do I do it every day? Nope. Check out last week’s joggers post for proof.
The important thing to keep in mind though, is that no matter what or who we are dressing for on any given day, we must first and foremost dress for ourselves. In any of the scenarios I mentioned above I may be wearing something that isn’t exactly what I love, but without exception, there will always be “me” in the outfit. No matter what I’m wearing, I always include something that makes the look my own. Whether it be a pattern mix, a fierce pair of shoes or my trusty boyfriend jeans there will always be something that is the essence of who I am.
THE OUTFIT
This month the Ageless Style Link Up ladies decided to go with “Valentine’s Date Outfit” for our theme. While I do love a good red/pink mix as much as the next girl, I decided to do something a little bit different. A Valentine’s date outfit with an edge for all of you bad girls in the crowd. While black isn’t necessarily considered the color of love, it is the color that works for almost any occasion.
This very versatile black sharkbite hem dress is one of several beautiful pieces I received Saturday from the lovely ladies at Boutique 16063. I had the pleasure of visiting the boutique in person, and I’m really looking forward to working with them and sharing some of what they have to offer with you in the coming months.
This is one of those pieces that works as a dress on a petite chica like myself, but it would probably be more of a tunic on a taller woman. Since the weather is, well, February-like and also because I’m not a super dressed up kind of person, I layered the dress over a pair of skinny jeans. The dress itself is sleeveless, so the moto jacket works with the scarf to keep me warm outside and without the scarf to keep me warm inside if necessary.
THE TIP
Always be thinking outside of the box. To be honest, originally since this was a Valentine’s themed look, I was going to roll with my trusty burgundy tulle skirt paired with something pink on top, but then I thought, “Nah…why go with the expected?” Hence, the all black with the silver sequined clutch thrown in to fancy up the party a bit.
