Smells Like School Spirit: Boyfriend Jeans, Black Blazer And Black Ankle Booties

I haven’t made an obscure musical reference for awhile, so here ya go. Remember the Nirvana song from 1991, “Smells Like Teen Spirit”? For whatever twisted reason, that’s where my brain wandered to when I had to wear this school spirit shirt. I can’t explain the bizarre and sometimes frightening wanderings of my mind. It does keep me entertained though.
When I was at the elementary, dress down day was dress down day. Occasionally there would be a Friday where we were all requested to wear something school spirit related or at least royal blue since our school’s colors are blue and white. At the middle school though, every (yes, every) Friday we have to wear school spirit related clothes. That almost made me ask to go back to the elementary. Not really, but it does mess with a girl’s style mojo. I decided to view it as a challenge. Some weeks I’ll just wear blue, but others I will indeed play along with the wearing of the not so stylish school shirts. Here’s the thing though, if you put some thought into it you can make just about anything look a hair more stylish than it actually is.
This top is definitely not showing up on any runways during fashion week, I can tell ya that. But with a few carefully chosen add-ons I made it at least passably cool. Since we all know that a blazer dresses up pretty much anything I started there. Ankle booties instead of the expected sneakers and last but not least, a chunky statement necklace. That’s why I have such an extensive necklace collection my friends. A well chosen bit of neck bling makes anything fancy. See, it’s not just my over-consuming hoarding tendencies, there’s actually a method to my madness.

I love that it’s TARDIS blue! I’d totally work that tee! Maybe next time, you can try a pencil skirt. Or a skater skirt. Or a tulle midi skirt. The possibilities…

Yup, you definitely dressed up the simple tee! The necklace (pearls) did it and I love that you chose the booties rather than sneakers, adds a bit more oomph! By the way, Nirvana.. awesome! Hope you are doing well, friend!
