Those of you who follow me on Instagram might have noticed that yesterday was the last day of school. And yes, I’m pretty damn pleased that an alarm and a bra are no longer required for the next three months; but this year the end was kind of bittersweet. Maybe for the first time in my teaching career (trust me, that’s a whole lotta years) I’m actually feeling a bit sad that it’s over.
I realize I risk a public stoning by my compadres in public education because c’mon, it’s hardwired into our brains to live for that last day. That’s the one day a year we get to legit feel like a kid again. There’s nothing like the knowledge that for months you do not have to be anywhere first thing in the morning. You’re free to schlub around all day in sloppy clothes and drink coffee in the backyard at your leisure. But I really loved what my position morphed into in January. Every day (ok, almost every day) was such a fun experience; I never knew what insanely entertaining thing was going to happen. Where else would I have the opportunity to have someone ask where their intesticles are? And the vibes in my room were always so positive. People would seriously drop by to visit because it was such a fun place to be. And no, I’m not patting myself on the back. It was the kids. I can’t imagine anyplace else with so many truly kind hearts assembled in one room. They had their moments, almost like siblings, but when it came down to it they had each other’s backs. And when anyone stopped by to visit, they were genuinely happy to see them. So yes, I will enjoy my braless coffee drinking, but I’ll miss getting a round of applause just because I remembered to bring the bubble solution for science class.
I’m pretty sure this striped top couldn’t get any better. It’s soft, lightweight and the back detail makes it a bit special. I wore the navy blue version here with my floral pencil skirt. As I’ve said before, if you love something, buy it in multiples. This olive green version was back ordered and just showed up the other day. I noticed my Shopstyle ad in the sidebar says it’s sold out, but it isn’t. I checked for you…ya, I’m nice like that. No print mixing today. I just kept it simple with the boyfriend shorts and flat sandals. These particular GAP boyfriend shorts I also have in multiples. I bought these a size larger because I wanted a slouchier fit then this pair. That is one of the primary reasons I’ll buy several of a particular item. Depending on the situation or the mood I’m in that day I like to have the option of a more fitted vs. a looser look. And it’s always good to have options.
