Studded Pumps & Waffle Knit Top: The World’s Scariest Game Of Peek-A-Boo

Studded pumps, waffle knit top and boyfriend jeans. How to dress up your jeans.

One of my favorite television shows is Grace and Frankie on Netflix. Have you ever seen it? If not, I highly recommend it. It stars Jane Fonda as Grace and Lily Tomlin as Frankie. Grace is a classy retired cosmetics company executive and Frankie is a free-spirited hippie type artist who’s favorite painting subject is her vagina…

THE STORY

…Yes, she paints a plethora of iterations of vaginas. Well, that is what sprung to mind the other day when a friend of mine sent me a link to these vagina pendants on Etsy. Um, ya…vagina pendants. Trust me, there’s no doubt what you’re looking at when you see them. And if wearing a vagina around your neck isn’t enough, you can select one with a glass eyeball peering out from inside it. Whaaattt??? Is there something going on down there that I’m not aware of? That would have to be the world’s scariest game of peek-a-boo. Or maybe is it like the gynecological version of an evil eye pendant? You know, to ward off evil girl part spirits.

I’m all for expressing yourself through style; totally 100% behind it. Sometimes I see trends that I’m not sure of but they eventually grow on me, like, say, over the knee boots or skinny jeans. I’m pretty sure that I can say with absolute certainty though that I won’t be adorning my neck with a vagina, a uterus or any other body part for that matter anytime soon. But hey, if you’re into that sort of thing…

THE OUTFIT

For some reason, I’ve been having a moment with pastels and neutrals. I guess you can’t really call it a moment when it’s been a months long obsession. This outfit is no exception. I started with these gorgeous blush studded pumps from Rialto Shoes and built it from there keeping the entire palette neutral/pastel. They were the perfect way to dress up a simple jeans + top combo.

There’s something so cozy about a waffle knit top even though they are pretty lightweight. This particular top is my favorite, and between my daughter and I we own it in just about every color. It’s currently on clearance for $9.99 so if you’re interested in one (or five) for yourself, now’s the time. I kept the accessories light as well. The dusty rose scarf was perfect paired with the nude suede Ettika x Free People choker because it lies loose enough to allow the choker to peek out over the top.

THE TIP

Even though jeans and a top or sweater is pretty basic, you can make it anything but basic with the right extras. The easiest way to do that is your shoes. Switching out ankle boots or sneakers for a pair of pumps instantly elevates the look; and studded pumps add an extra dose of sass.

Love the pumps and how they echo the scarf. I’m eager to see that TV show but haven’t yet.

Debbie, you are absolutely adorable! Have I said that before. I love your outfit and your sass. My personal soap box in the fashion realm right now is the whole “free the nipple” trend. Really? I’m with you! I am not going to be caught wearing any body part as jewelry, nor am I about to expose my body parts, just because other people are doing it. Let’s have some sort of self-pride, and taste. Ha, ha. Okay, stepping off the soap box! Your outfit is so cute. I love the combination of pastels, textures and comfort while still maintaining… Read more »

Love this look! Love a nice waffle knit, love your bracelets, love you! There was an exhibit at the museum yesterday, it was combining feminism and dinnerware…there was a giant 3-sided table and each plate was done in the style of a famous female designer/artist/person in history, mythology, religion…and they were all vagina plates. Some very obvious, others not so…some very sculptural and dimensional, some designs painted on. Was very interesting. Just once I think I’d like to see the symbol of feminism as a BRAIN. Anyway, if you Google Brooklyn Museum feminism The Dinner Party, you can see pictures… Read more »

I love these pastels in the winter. Debbie!
Sometimes I feel like I’m living under a rock compared to you, girl!! The things you find out about give me a whole different insight into some people.
Not that anything is wrong with our anatomy—we all have a body and should love it. I guess I just have a modest streak….

Loving this outfit and esp those fab shoes. I don’t have any objections to what others wear but there’ll be no overt genital jewelry on this old broad! xo

I’m a big Grace and Frankie fan. I absolutely adore Lily Tomlin. Always have. She’s hugely underrated and both her and Jane are brilliant foils for each other. Um… yes, like you I’m not sure I want to wear body parts as jewellery though!
I’m loving your pastel phase. I’ve been quietly reading but not commenting whilst I’ve been on my blogging break (no energy, just want to read and see posts) and I’m inspired to do a pastel post at some point. Pastel blue and pink are so pretty together.

This comment may come up twice! Anyway I’m a big Grace and Frankie fan. I’ve always adored Lily Tomlin. She so underrated and she and Jane are prefect foils for each other. Um…. like you I’m not keen on wearing body parts in jewellery. What a strange idea!
I’m loving your pastel phase – you wear them well. I’ve been quietly reading and enjoying (no energy to comment until now) and you’ve inspired me to do a pastel post now that I’m inching my way back to blogging.
