One of my favorite television shows is Grace and Frankie on Netflix. Have you ever seen it? If not, I highly recommend it. It stars Jane Fonda as Grace and Lily Tomlin as Frankie. Grace is a classy retired cosmetics company executive and Frankie is a free-spirited hippie type artist who’s favorite painting subject is her vagina…
THE STORY
…Yes, she paints a plethora of iterations of vaginas. Well, that is what sprung to mind the other day when a friend of mine sent me a link to these vagina pendants on Etsy. Um, ya…vagina pendants. Trust me, there’s no doubt what you’re looking at when you see them. And if wearing a vagina around your neck isn’t enough, you can select one with a glass eyeball peering out from inside it. Whaaattt??? Is there something going on down there that I’m not aware of? That would have to be the world’s scariest game of peek-a-boo. Or maybe is it like the gynecological version of an evil eye pendant? You know, to ward off evil girl part spirits.
I’m all for expressing yourself through style; totally 100% behind it. Sometimes I see trends that I’m not sure of but they eventually grow on me, like, say, over the knee boots or skinny jeans. I’m pretty sure that I can say with absolute certainty though that I won’t be adorning my neck with a vagina, a uterus or any other body part for that matter anytime soon. But hey, if you’re into that sort of thing…
THE OUTFIT
For some reason, I’ve been having a moment with pastels and neutrals. I guess you can’t really call it a moment when it’s been a months long obsession. This outfit is no exception. I started with these gorgeous blush studded pumps from Rialto Shoes and built it from there keeping the entire palette neutral/pastel. They were the perfect way to dress up a simple jeans + top combo.
There’s something so cozy about a waffle knit top even though they are pretty lightweight. This particular top is my favorite, and between my daughter and I we own it in just about every color. It’s currently on clearance for $9.99 so if you’re interested in one (or five) for yourself, now’s the time. I kept the accessories light as well. The dusty rose scarf was perfect paired with the nude suede Ettika x Free People choker because it lies loose enough to allow the choker to peek out over the top.
THE TIP
Even though jeans and a top or sweater is pretty basic, you can make it anything but basic with the right extras. The easiest way to do that is your shoes. Switching out ankle boots or sneakers for a pair of pumps instantly elevates the look; and studded pumps add an extra dose of sass.
