Well, I hate to say it, but Fall is definitely winding down. When I took these shots the other day I had to look a little harder for spots where the leaves were still vivid and pretty…
THE STORY
…It still smelled like Fall; you know that crisp earthy smell? Ya, I love that. And yes, there were still gorgeous leaves to behold, but the majority of the trees are down to their bones. And yesterday was my least favorite day of the year…the day we set the clocks back an hour. That means from now until March, it will be dark when I go to work in the morning and just about sundown by the time I get home. Truth be told, snow isn’t my least favorite thing about Winter, the darkness is.
It’s funny how sunlight can make so much difference in our frame of mind. And you don’t necessarily realize it until there is a lack thereof. A stretch of cloudy overcast days can make me cranky, and the long dark days of Winter? Just call me Captain Cranky McCranky Pants. Don’t get me wrong; I love a cozy snowed in weekend night with the candles, fireplace and twinkle lights glowing, snuggled up with my honey (and a few dogs) on the couch. But I don’t love that said weekend night seems to last most of the day as well. I’m thinking this year I need to make an effort to soak up a few extra rays during the narrow window of time that the sun is actually out.
THE OUTFIT
There’s a whole lotta different going on in today’s outfit. First of all, I’ve never been much of a hoodie wearer. I don’t know, I guess the bulkiness irritates me. But when I spotted this tie die hoodie at Shein I couldn’t resist. I mean c’mon…look at the colors…is it not gorgeous? And imagine my delight when it arrived and I discovered that while it is cozy and soft, it also manages to be non-bulky at the same time.
What better thing to pair it with than the one thing you would think that it shouldn’t go with; a flirty girly-girl pink chiffon skirt. It’s a match made in heaven. Opposites attract my friends, opposites attract. Now another bit of different. I’m also sporting nude pantyhose from Berkshire. Oh my God…how old school not cool is that? They’re nude and I referred to them as “pantyhose”.
Seriously, they aren’t tights are they? Or should I refer to them as nude tights? Here’s the deal, I really think that we should make nude hose a “thing” again. Why are they considered so uncool? Why I ask you? It just does not make sense. I think it must be something those self-proclaimed fashion gods decreed and we just followed blindly along. This is the time of year when it’s not necessarily cold enough to completely cocoon our legs in fleece leggings and long underwear, but yet our summer glow (faux or real) has vanished. Therefore we need a little somethin’ somethin’ to pretty up the gams. So why not nude hose?
The final entry in the whole lotta different category are my hand warmers. I picked these up at an outdoor craft show last month. Here’s the different part…they’re made from alpaca. You guys! Have you ever touched anything made from alpaca? Well, you need to. These babies are as soft as cashmere, but thick and sturdy like wool. Super soft and not itchy…I love ’em! I’ve been wearing them every chance I get.
THE TIP
First, always remember, opposites attract; often in real life, but always in clothing. Second, nude hose. Buy ’em, wear ’em, love ’em. Naysayers be damned. And finally, alpacas are our friends. They make the snuggliest softest winter wear imaginable. Okay, perhaps they don’t make the stuff, but they oh so graciously provide the raw materials. Definitely grab yourself a pair of alpaca hand warmers. You’ll thank me when the polar vortex returns.
