I know I have oftentimes waxed poetic about how much I love my job…
THE STORY
…Several weeks ago you may or may not recall, I shared with you some particularly difficult and emotionally painful times we were going through as a school community. We weathered that particular storm and came out stronger and perhaps more unified on the other side. Shortly after that difficult period we received some super exciting news, that quite honestly could not have come at a better time.
Thanks to the dedication and hard work of my good friend (who happens to also be our principal), we as a building had the opportunity to be interviewed for the honor of possibly being selected as a Don Eichhorn Schools To Watch school. I’m sure this probably means nothing to you, as quite honestly it initially did to most of us. We came to find out though, that it is quite an honor to be selected; especially if you are a small town rural school like we are.
The process was really quite rigorous. A team visited our school for an entire day. They interviewed the entire faculty as well as students and parents. They observed classes and even came to the cafeteria and sat and chatted with the kids during lunch. And these people were serious with a capital “s”. No tomfoolery, no meals or snacks were to be provided; there would be no bribery via a cream filled doughnut. They were there to put us through our paces my friends. And that they did.
Apparently we’re pretty good at what we do; we were selected as a Schools To Watch school! As I said, if ever a ray of sunshine was desperately needed by a group of people, we needed it. Even the kids were excited. And for those of you who don’t spend your time hanging out with several hundred 12-14 year olds on a daily basis, trust me, it’s no easy feat to get them as a collective group excited over something. If you have a minute, read the article that was in our local newspaper because it’s really pretty cool. And seriously, can’t we all use a little good news in our day?
THE OUTFIT
How on God’s Earth did I make clear to January without not one time sporting one a tulle skirt? Seriously, what’s wrong with me? How did that even happen? Well, fortunately the arrival of Puma suede sneakers via a Christmas gift card from my son rectified the situation. Call me crazy, but I see Pumas, or any sneaker really, and my first thought is tulle skirt (or sequin skirt or anything fancy actually).
Sure sneakers are perfect with jeans, shorts or pants, but due to my love of pairing things that seem unlikely together, I naturally want to wear them with something super feminine. And you don’t get more super feminine than a pink tulle skirt. To further play down the fancy, I threw on my bulldog sweatshirt (again, how have I not worn my favorite sweatshirt ’til now) and my most favorite moto jacket. And there ya have it…the easiest way to do super fancy during the day.
THE TIP
There is not a single thing wrong with rocking sequins, tulle or velvet during the daylight hours. Actually, that might be when it’s the most fun. You startle people with your audacity. And I like that. Simply throw in some casual elements like sneakers or combat boots. On top, think tee or sweatshirt and finish it all over with casual outerwear like a moto or denim jacket.
