I hope you’ll forgive me if I keep today’s story brief…
THE STORY
…I’ve had some flu/cold hybrid pretty much all week long and I’m still not feeling quite back to normal and as such I’m not feeling much like writing. It started out earlier in the week as the flu; body aches, chills and a headache so bad it felt like my face had a pulse. It has since morphed into a cough, sore throat, sinus-y kind of thing. At least it’s now tolerable, but still not fun.
I have to say though that I’m kind of impressed that I made all the way to January before I caught a cootie. The last several years every single October I’ve gotten my ass kicked by some virus or another so a big shout out to my immune system this year. It doesn’t seem to matter what kind of a superhero your immune system is though when you work in a middle school. I swear that place is a hotbed of every germ known to mankind. This weekend is supposed to start a run of single digit and below zero weather so I’ll be staying in and recovering. Hopefully by next Tuesday’s post I’ll be back to full functioning. Have a great weekend and for all of you in the north, stay warm my friends!
THE OUTFIT
There was a time that I hesitated to pair orange and black because the first thing that comes to my mind is um, Halloween. Even though the colors work really well together, it’s hard to get visions of jack o’lanterns and witches out of my head.
Black and orange still isn’t one of my favorite combos (for the aforementioned reason), but when the temperatures are this cold the only way to wear a slip dress is with warm layers, hence the velvet duster. I love this ASOS slip dress so much that I didn’t want to wait for warmer weather to wear it so I powered through my black/orange aversion to put this look together.
A slip dress is one of those pieces that is surprisingly versatile. It is multi-seasonal and can be layered over and under a plethora of things for both warmth and visual interest. I’ve layered mine with all kinds of things…
- Basic tees
- Kimonos
- A sweater and otk boots
- Over a pair of jeans…the possibilities are endless.
- Of course a slip dress can also be worn on it’s own too in the Summer when the heat climbs.
THE TIP
If you don’t own a slip dress, consider giving one a try. As with everything, age is not in any way a factor when deciding whether or not a slip dress is for you. If a slip dress is something that you think you’d love then give one a try. Basic black is an easy starting point, but you can also pick one up in a beautiful pastel shade, a brighter color or a fun print.
