I’ve noticed that recently so many of us northern women have been voicing our displeasure over the weather…
THE STORY
…So much so, you are all probably tired of hearing it. Especially those of you who live in warmer climes. I realize that it is still early April so the weather is expected to be unpredictable. I also realize that in a few short months we (or at least I) will be complaining about the fact that it’s 90° and a billion percent humidity outside. That presents it’s own unique set of problems; makeup migrating from your face to your collarbone, the inability to wear jeans, ankle boots or anything with sleeves, boob sweat; need I say more?
But seriously, come on with this snow already. Just yesterday, this happened:
It was cloudy and warm-ish. Literally in the time that it took me to stand up, move the tripod and get in front of the camera, sunlight blasted from the clouds and snow started swirling everywhere. WTH Mother Nature? Can’t we pick a season and stick with it for longer than 5 minutes at a time?
Besides the obvious picture taking issues this presents, how’s a girl supposed to know what to wear? You dress appropriately for the weather before you leave the house in the morning and then boom…you’re either melting in a cable knit sweater in 70° temperatures or your bare legs are turning blue from frostbite. I’m all for the changing of the seasons, but changing seasons within a span of minutes? Ain’t nobody got time for that.
THE OUTFIT
I’m not one to necessarily immediately jump on a trend bandwagon. I only do if a) it’s something that I really love, and b) it’s something that I will continue to rock long after it’s no longer trendy. The problem with trends is, I don’t particularly desire to look like everyone else, but hey, if I really love something then I’m going to wear it. Actually that’s kind of the yin to my style belief yang…I wear what I like regardless of whether other people like it, so why not wear what I like even if other people (perhaps a lot of other people) like it too?
Such is the case with my super fab white ankle boots. They’ve been on the trend radar for months now. Initially I wasn’t a huge fan, but much like skinny jeans and kimonos, they eventually wormed their way into my heart. I’ve been looking for the just right pair for awhile now and I had very specific requirements. A heel, but not too high. The heel itself had to be white. They had to feel both casual and dressy at the same time. They couldn’t be outrageously expensive. Lucky me, these little lovelies that I found at Target about two weeks ago checked off every requirement on the list.
I’ve already styled them with boyfriend jeans, and I think they worked just as well here with this boho ruffled asymmetric skirt and lace up top. They add a kind of unexpected vibe to the boho style skirt. The skirt, by the way, is pretty versatile too. It was perfect in the Summer with a tank top and in the Spring with a graphic tee and sneakers. It’s one of those pieces that you might think of as traditionally Summer, but it works all year ’round with a simple change in tops and shoes.
THE TIP
It’s probably not the best idea to buy something simply because it’s trendy. Trends come and go and who needs more pieces languishing in their closet eating up valuable real estate? Buy pieces because you love them; and because you will wear them even long after the “trend” is nothing but a distant memory.
