For all intents and purposes, summer is wrapping up. You might as well put a bow on it…
…That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. Yes, I love my leisurely mornings. I can sip my several gallons cups of coffee while enjoying seemingly unlimited time to work on all things blog related. If I don’t feel like putting on anything more than old shorts and a tank top, I don’t. If I’m not feeling makeup that day, I simply don’t put it on.
All that ends next Thursday. Actually today, kind of, because I have to go in and get my classroom all set up. The reason it isn’t a bad thing is really quite simple. Remember when you were young, and even though the thought of getting up early to catch the bus was enough to send a chill down your spine, you couldn’t help but be excited? A new school year; a fresh start. You could reinvent yourself and be anyone you wanted to be. Seriously, how could you not be excited about new school supplies? To this day, I turn into a giddy maniac whenever I walk into a Staples. And most importantly, the clothes…few things top the fun of putting together the all-important first day of school outfit.
That my friends, is one of the perks of being a teacher. I still get to experience that excitement (albeit a more toned down big girl version) every single year. As a matter of fact, aside from the year I worked before starting college, I’ve had a first day of school every year since I was five years old. How cool is that? How about you…do you miss the first day of school excitement?
Speaking of cool, can we talk about this sublime white boho dress for a minute? I lucked upon this beauty when I was in Pittsburgh last week. The lovely Jackee, who owns Style Truck was at the opening night of Style Week. It’s such an awesome concept; a boutique on wheels. When I spotted this dress on one of the racks it said, “Hey, don’t fight it. You’re taking me home.” Who am I to argue? Normally I shy away from ruffles because they don’t always play nice with the girls; the more well-endowed amongst us know what I’m sayin’. Since the ruffles are a single layer and lightweight it wasn’t a problem though.
I really wanted to just wear this as a dress, but I need to get myself a pretty white slip to wear underneath because it’s really sheer, especially in the light. Hence, my first adventure in wearing jeans with a dress. Can you believe I haven’t tried that before now? I’m so glad I did though, because it’s opened up a whole other world of styling options for me. Even though the dress is lightweight, there’s a lot of volume going on so I went with skinny cropped jeans to keep it all balanced. I was afraid the beaded sandals might be too literally boho paired with the dress, but I really do like the pop of color they brought to the party.
